If you were a fan of the 1977 American comedy-drama series, Eight Is Enough, you don’t need to be introduced to Willie Aames, the curly blonde-haired guy who played the role of Tommy Bradford in the show. But before he bagged the role, he made several on-screen appearances as a child in the late 1960s. Some of the shows he starred in at the time include Adam-12, Gunsmoke, The Courtship of Eddie’s Father, The Wonderful World of Disney, and many others.

Many years later, Willie grew to become a force to reckon with in the movie industry due to his expressive acting style. Today, he is a household name within the showbiz community, having excelled as a screenwriter, actor, and TV/film director.

Willie Aames’ Biography (Age)

Willie Aames was born to a firefighter father and a manicurist mother on the 15th day of July 1960, in a place called Newport Beach, in California, United States of America. Unlike most celebrities with famous parents, Willies’ parents were strict disciplinarians who never wanted anything to do with Hollywood or hear about their son’s acting career despite his enormous fame.

Aames had his high school education at Edison High School in Huntington Beach, California. During his time in Edison, he was part of the music group, The Ensemble Madrigal.

Willie once admitted during an interview that his acting career was born out of a desire to be acknowledged by his family and that his entry into the Hollywood scene really shaped his life to a large extent. Since his Eight is Enough days which lasted from 1977 to 1981, he has starred in other television series such as VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club, VH1’s Broke & Famous, Charles in Charge, and others.

He has also written, directed, acted and produced varieties of film and television shows, including a Christian superhero series titled Bibleman which aired from 1995 to 2003. A man of many talents, Aames, is an ace singer and guitarist. He previously played in a band called “Willie Aames & Paradise” as a lead guitarist/singer in the 1970s.

His Net Worth

The likes of 50 Cent and Nicolas Cage are not the only celebrities who went from being famous and wealthy to being involved in spending sprees that resulted in bankruptcy. When Willie Aames was in his 20s, he was a millionaire but he lost everything after he had issues with money and got broke. In a tell-it-all interview in 2009, the former child actor recounted how his life spiraled down into poverty, revealing that he used to make a whopping $1.5 million annually but later filed for bankruptcy after he was overpowered by many financial troubles, including losing $150,000 he invested in a failed TV show in 2007. Aames is gradually bouncing back after ruining his successful acting career. His net worth, as of 2018, is estimated at $100,000.

Who’s His Spouse?

Willie Aames is currently in a marital relationship with actress Winnie Hung, whom he married on March 21, 2014. Prior to their marriage, the actor and Hung, who was his big fan, were pen friends for thirty years. They eventually met face-to-face for the first time in Vancouver after Aames’ ship (where he works) pulled into the area.

There is hardly any information available about Winnie Hung’s personal life and family background, except for the fact that she is having a blissful union with her idol-turned-husband. Born on the 14th day of January 1972, the actress is a native of Hong Kong. She is popularly known for her roles in films such as Supergirl (2015), Legends of Tomorrow (2016), and Dater’s Handbook (2016).

Winnie’s marriage to the Eight is Enough actor may be her first attempt at marriage but the same cannot be said of Aames, as he had married and divorced twice before settling down with Hung. His first attempt at marriage was with Vicki Weatherman, whom he married in 1979. Their relationship which ended in 1984, produced one child named Christopher.

The actor had another wedding ceremony in the year 1986 when he exchanged his marital vow with actress Maylo McCaslin. The couple’s relationship turned sour after many years of living together as husband and wife, leading to their divorce in 2009. The two share a daughter called Harleigh Jean Aames. She was born on 21st July 1990 in Orange County, California. Aames’ second wife was born Maylo Elizabeth McCaslin, in Huntington Beach, California, on January 15, 1962. She is best known for co-authoring the book “Grace is Enough” with renowned author Carolyn Stanford Goss and her ex-husband, Willie Aames.

Where Is He Now?

Willie’s post-fame life is quite different from what it used to be many years ago. Currently, he works as a cruise ship director. He got the job not long after he was restored to normality after battling with alcohol and hard drug abuse for many years. He previously did construction jobs before he was hired as a ship director. He sometimes takes up roles in the movie industry. In 2017, he was spotted in the TV series, Date My Dad. The previous year saw him feature in a film titled Every Christmas Has A Story.
