Aristos Petrou, often referred to as Ruby Da Cherry, was born on April 22, 1990, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is of white ethnicity and American nationality. His love for music came at the tender age of 7 and he was known to exhibit a high level of passion towards playing the violin and drums, a passion that eventually led him into joining a musical band while in middle school.
During his teens, Ruby Da Cherry became fond of rap music but switched to punk rock as his parents perceived it was influencing him negatively. He eventually resumed listening to rap songs from a variety of rap artists such as Outkast and Kanye West before opting to go into music professionally. Although the early part of his youth was characterized by excessive drug use, poverty and suicidal thoughts, he found a way to infuse such deep feelings into his music.
His rise to stardom began in 2014, following his decision with his cousin Scott Arceneaux Jr. ( popularly known as Scrim) to set up the musical rap duo named SuicideBoys, making a pact to commit suicide if they weren’t rich and famous as at when they clock 30. On July 16, 2014, they successfully released their debut EP which they titled Kill Yourself Part I: The Suicide Saga, it’s made up of five tracks which comprised of: Kill Yourself, Mask & da Glock (Feat. Trippy tha Kid), Maple Syrup and others. The EP was an instant success as it received widespread recognition by lovers of the rap genre which led to their style of music being tagged – Dark Trap.
Following the success of their debut EP, Ruby Da Cherry, alongside his cousin Scrim, has gone on to release 20 parts of the EP in corresponding sequences. He has also collaborated with other high profile artists in the past such as ASAP Rocky, Pouya, and Black Smurf. Their debut album, I want to Die in New Orleans was released on September 7, 2018, under their label imprint G59 records and was produced by both Budd Dwyer and Juicy J. The album was ranked number 9 on the Billboard Top 200. The group currently boasts of about 1.2 million loyal YouTube subscribers with over 446 million views worldwide.
