American mixed martial artist Nick Diaz has had his presence duly felt in the UFC. The former welterweight champion has fought in the prestigious PRIDE championship as well as Strikeforce, World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC), DREAM and many other championships. He is also a promoter and has worked with several fighters in the industry. Here is everything you need to know about him

He was born on August 2, 1983, in Stockton, California and is of Mexican and English Descent. Nick is an alumnus of Tokay High School, Lodi, California where he schooled for a year before dropping out. The kid started from a very young age to exhibit tenacity, strength, and resilience.

He was part of his school’s swimming team and also engaged in karate as a teenager. Diaz used to fight at wrestling tournaments at the time and was popular in the sports. At 16 he enrolled in Sambo training and was promoted to black belt in 2007.

Nick Diaz Career, Fighting Record

Diaz went pro as a mixed martial arts fighter in the year 2001 when he won Mike Wick at IFC Warriors Challenge 15. The following year, Diaz claimed the IFC Welterweight Championship after defeating Chris Lytle at IFC Warriors Challenge 17 in 2002.  He defended his IFC Welterweight Championship and also won the WEC Welterweight Championship at WEC 6 in 2003 with a bout against Joe Hurley whom he submitted with a kimura.

Nick Diaz was soon signed to the UFC and debuted at UFC 44 where he submitted Jackson with an armbar in a trilogy. Diaz’s first UFC loss was in the fight against Judoka Kao Parisyan at UFC 49. He later made up for the loss with wins over Drew Fickett at UFC 51 and at UFC 53 against Koji Oshi. Little did he know that his second loss was imminent. Diaz lost for the second time at The Ultimate Fighter 2 Finale to Diego Sanches, a Middleweight winner. He lost a third time at UFC 59 to Sean Sherk.

In 2007, Nick Diaz was signed with PRIDE and had his first fight at PRIDE 33. While on the platform, Diaz failed a drug test after he tested positive to marijuana by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. He was suspended for six months with a fine of $3000 which was 20 percent of his earnings from his implicating fight with Lightweight Champion Takanori Gomi.

His next stint was under EliteXC after he was reportedly signed on a two-year deal. He lost his fight against fighting specialist KJ Noons in a defeat which saw him undergo a surgery to fix a cut he sustained from the fight. At DREAM, he was remarkable and emerged victorious in most fights. The same went for Strikeforce. Nick Diaz recorded 26 wins and 9 losses in 37 fights in his mixed martial arts career. He has one championship recorded and hopes to win more.

Not much is known about the father of the MMA  fighter. He grew up with his mother, his younger brother Nate and sister in a story-building in Lodi. He grew up in a rough neighborhood where fights occurred every now and then. Nick’s brother Nate Diaz is also an MMA fighter in the UFC. The two brothers who were always inclined to martial arts teach Brazilian jiu-jitsu in Lodi.

Nick started at a young age to train himself. He began by lifting weights at Animal House Gym. At the time, Nate who was 13 was working in a restaurant but later joined his brother. The Diaz brothers today are well-known names in the MMA.

Nate is a lover of Jiu-Jitsu and a skilled boxer started out his career by engaging in Jiu-Jitsu tournaments under his coach. He later moved to cage fights and gradually transitioned to the big platform. He fought his way to the UFC and made a deal with them in 2014. He has fought with well-known personalities in the UFC including Conor Mcgregor, Micheal Johnson, and many others. The Diaz brothers are known advocates for Marijuana.

Wife, Girlfriend

Nick Diaz was on the news in the latter part of 2017 over reports of marriage to a certain lady. The lady named Chloe Standley took to YouTube to claim that she married the MMA fighter in Las Vegas and that her brother officiated the wedding. However, following some bashings from the public she withdrew the statement but said she had a thing with him. But subsequent inquiries showed that the lady in question was only seeking for fame.

Diaz in 2018 got caught up with the law when he was accused of assaulting a woman said to be his girlfriend in Las Vegas. It was a battery case which included domestic violence by strangulation and violence resulting in bodily harm. Diaz was held in Clark County Detention Centre. At the moment, we don’t know him to have a wife or any named girlfriend.
