The news that CBS has renewed NCIS for Season 17 will not surprise anyone who has at least followed some part of the series. Of course, the rumors about some cast members leaving and Cote de Pablo’s character, Ziva David, not returning have topped the mills but so far, most have all only succeeded in getting it all wrong. With all the rumor mill has not gotten right thus far, here is all we know with certainty about the return of the veteran CBS series.
Season’s 17’s Release Date
Sixteen seasons after it first began in 2003, season 17 of NCIS is already in the tube. Filming began not long after CBS announced that it has signed on for another season. However, there are still a lot of things that have been kept away from the public most especially regarding the storyline.
Like all other seasons before it, NCIS Season 17 will premier in September. The show is expected to air in September 2019 on Tuesday, 24th to be precise. It will return on CBS at 8 p.m EST. Adding more excitement is the fact that new seasons of the show FBI and the NCIS spinoff – NCIS: New Orleans are also premiering the same night.
Which Actors Are Returning For The Show?
One of the things that have generated a lot of buzz is the reported return of Ziva David (Cote de Pablo). The entire excitement about Ziva, who is one of the most loved characters on the show, stretched back to 2013 when she left the show. It was believed then, that she had died in a mortar attack even though her body was not found. Instead, there was a note from her that in order to keep her family safe, she decided to hide.
More than just coming back, the hope of fans is that she will be around for a much longer time. However, while confirming her return, Frank Cardea and Steven Binder revealed in a statement that she will guest star in season 17 of NCIS. What “guest star” could mean here is that she may only appear for a single episode or if fans are lucky a few episodes.
Even though Ziva David is back, it is not known if Michael Weatherly will find his way back as well to give the highly anticipated ‘Ziva and Tony DiNozzo’ reunion. Sadly, this is highly unlikely because Bull, which Michael Weatherly stars in, has already been renewed for the fourth season. Nonetheless, he has revealed in a deleted tweet that he will be ready to take on the role of DiNizzo when the right time comes.
Cote de Pablo revealed that she first left the show because she was not happy with the way her character was handled. With her return, it could as well mean that the character is being handled more positively by the showrunners. From the little we know, her appearance in season 17 of NCIS has something to do with warning Gibbs that his life could be in danger.
Other cast members that would be available for the NCIS season 17 include Mark Harmon who will reprise his role of Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs and Sean Murray who will continue to play Special Agent Timothy McGee. Emily Wickersham, Wilmer Valderrama, Maria Bello, Brian Dietzen, and Diona Reasonover are also coming back as Special Agent Eleanor Bishop, Special Agent Nickolas Torres, Special Agent Jacqueline Sloane, Dr. Jimmy Palmer, and Forensic Scientist Kasie Hines respectively.
Other Facts About The Show
There have been fears concerning Mark Harmon’s Gibbs with many wondering if he will return or not. Well, while we can say he is coming back, many are now wondering if he will make it through the season or if this will be his last. However, there are indications that he may still be around for probably a long time. Following his involvement in the show as both a producer and actor, he has made it on the list of the highest-paid actors and so there is hardly any reason why he should leave.
Sean Murray is another person who has generated a lot of interest as regards his future on the show. The speculation began after his character, McGee was offered a job at Silicon Valley which would see him move. This is what started the rumor that he is probably leaving the series. Nonetheless, the actor has put down the rumor stating that he has a contract with CBS which will keep him around for a long time.
