Stelle Ciccone Lost Her Mother Not Long After Birth

Stelle Ciccone was born on the 24th of August 2012 as a twin; her twin sister is Estere Ciccone. Though she was born in Malawi to a Malawian father, Stelle has since taken on the surname of her adoptive mother – the same is true about her twin sister. She did not have the best childhood as she was born into a poor family.

Her father, Adam Mwale, is a farmer, while the occupation of their mother was never known. Prior to the conception of the twins, Adam and his wife already had five children. To add to the family’s problem, not long after the birth of Stelle and Estere, their mother died as a result of complications that followed the cesarean session through which she gave birth to the twins.

Stelle Ciccone is a Malawian national, of black ethnicity, and her zodiac sign is Virgo.

Stelle Ciccone’s Father Dropped Her in an Orphanage

After Stelle Ciccone’s mother died, Adam Mwale was left to take care of the twins and his other five children. The task seems to have been so much for him alone, and as a result, he resorted to dropping his twin daughters – Stelle and her sister, Estere – at the Home of Hope orphanage home, located somewhere around the outskirts of Lilongwe, Malawi.

Adam’s decision may be criticized by some, but at that time it may have felt like the best thing to do. Thankfully, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as Madonna met the girls at the orphanage home and was drawn to them. Soon, she started making efforts to adopt them.

Stelle and Her Sister Stayed With Madonna For One Year Before the Adoption was Official

Details about the same exact year Madonna began to show interest in adopting Stelle and Estere are not available to the media. This is because Madonna had decided to stay silent about the adoption process.

However, it was revealed that before the adoption process was finalized, she had to live with the girls for 12 months. During this period, the girls stayed with her in New York and their bond only became stronger that after the expiration of the 12 months, Madonna did not have any reason to change her mind about the adoption.

After the adoption was completed, Madonna took to Instagram in February 2017 to announce that she had successfully adopted Stelle and Estere.

Her Father Claimed To Be Ignorant of The Exact Terms of The Adoption

During an interview with Daily Mail in 2017, Adam Mwale claimed to have been misled regarding the terms and implications of the adoption. According to him, he was told that a white rich woman was going to take his twins abroad and provide a good education for them so that they can come back and take care of the family.

When he was told that the adoption was permanent, he was in disbelief. He thought Madonna was only going to foster the children and not take them permanently. He also added that he was told to accept everything in court, not knowing that the adoption was permanent and the girls were no longer going to see him

Adam also debunked claims that he wasn’t taking care of his children. According to him, he was doing everything within his capacity to provide for his children. He said he took the girls to the orphanage because he knew he couldn’t take care of them and wanted the best for them and was regularly visiting the twins until their adoption.

However, two years after the death of his wife, he decided to get another wife. But in court, he was accused of abandoning his children to marry another wife, an accusation he claims to be false. Adam Mwale hopes that one day in the future, he will be together with his girls again.

Stelle is Having a Good Life With Her Adoptive Mother

Life wasn’t rosy for Stelle at the beginning. Her life, and that of her twin sister, Estere was filled with so much uncertainty while they were at the orphanage home in Malawi. Getting adopted by Madonna changed the course of her life and made it possible for her to get a good education and access to everything a child would need.

In 2019, Stelle and her twin sister were on the Madam X tour with Madonna. During the tour, they were spotted dancing as backup dancers for Madonna. Stelle loves to play musical instruments and from time to time Madonna shares videos and pictures of the girls playing musical instruments. The girls also visit Malawi and other African countries.

Meet Stelle Ciccone’s Siblings

Stelle and her twin sister are not the only children Madonna has. Prior to the adoption of the twins, Madonna had adopted two Malawian children, and she has two children of her own. Meet them:

Lourdes Leon

Lourdes Leon is the biological child of the singer who was born on the 14th of October 1996. Two years after his birth, in 1998, Madonna released an album titled ‘Ray of Light’ which was dedicated to her son, Lourdes. Today, Lourdes is a successful fashion model who has worked for top fashion brands like Savage x Fenty, Marc Jacobs, Burberry, Mugler, Vogue, and Swarovski.

Ricco Ritchie

Ricco Ritchie was born on the 11th of August 2000 to Madonna and Guy Ritchie. In 2012, Ricco told Ellen DeGeneres that Madonna was a strict mother in a good way. He is currently a model and actor.

At the time when Madonna wanted to adopt David, she was married to Guy Ritchie. The adoption process did not go so smoothly for the couple because it was required by law that they live in Malawi for at least 18 months to become residents before they can adopt a child.

On the 28 of May 2008, the adoption was officially approved. In 2019, Madonna revealed that she has a special connection to David and he has more of her DNA than her other children. In 2006, she adopted David Banda, the news about the adoption went so viral, and sadly, false information about Madonna kidnapping him began to spread.

Mercy James

Mercy James was born on the 22nd of January 2006 in Malawi. Madonna applied to adopt Mercy in May 2009, but her application was rejected. However, by June 2009, the application was approved.

In 2017, Madonna opened a pediatric hospital in Malawi called Mercy James Institute for Pediatric Surgery and Intensive Care. On Mercy’s 16th birthday, Madonna referred to her as the kindest, most thoughtful, and most magical girl on the planet.
