Tika Sumpter was born Euphemia L. Sumpter on June 20, 1980, in Queens, New York City. Her parents are Janice Acquista and Arthur Curtis Sumpter, Sr.
She had her high school education at Longwood Senior High School in Middle Island, New York. Her tertiary education was at Marymount Manhattan College where she majored in communications.
Prior to her acting career, Tika Sumpter worked as a waitress while taking acting classes.
