Having been born in the United States, Wave Set is, on the surface, automatically an American citizen. That national heritage is further reinforced by the fact that his parents are also American citizens.

At this point, we feel the need to point out the fact that Wave Set’s ethnic heritage, while predominantly African American, has traces of the Latina community, thanks to his mother Cardi B who has a Dominican father and a Trinidadian mother of African and Spanish descent, which allows her to often identify as an Afro-Latina.

Wave Set Cephus’ Mother Is A Renowned Rapper

Wave Set’s mother, Cardi B, born Belcalis Marnelis Almánzar, on October 11, 1992, is a 31-year-old American rapper who first caught the attention of the media and general public through social media platforms on Vine and Instagram.

Her popularity grew from 2015 to 2017 during her time as a regular cast member on the set of the VH1 reality TV series Love & Hip Hop: New York, which showcased her pursuit of her musical aspirations. Her profile as a music sensation was cemented following the release of her mixtapes Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 1 (2016), and Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 2 (2017).

She has since gone from strength to strength with the release of one studio album, three mixtapes, 38 singles (including 24 as a featured artist), and 17 music videos (as a lead artist). According to the RIAA, the rapper has sold more than 100 million equivalent units in the United States across albums, singles, and mixtapes, which confirms her status as the 6th best-selling female digital artist in the United States.

Her efforts in the industry have been rewarded with significant recognition and accolades, including a Grammy Award, six American Music Awards, eight Billboard Music Awards, six BET Awards, fourteen BET Hip Hop Awards, four iHeartRadio Music Awards, two MTV Europe Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, six Soul Train Music Awards, and an NRJ Music Award.

Wave Set’s mother has also earned six Guinness World Records during her career. In 2019, she became the first female rapper to receive the award for ASCAP Songwriter of the Year. She was awarded the prize again in 2020, which made her the first female songwriter to win the award twice. The same year, she became the first female rapper to be named Woman of the Year at the Billboard Women in Music Awards.

Wave Set was born into a family of musicians, a reality further buttressed by the fact that his father is also a well-known American rapper professionally known as Offset. Born Kiari Kendell Cephus on December 14, 1991, he attracted public and media attention as a member of the rap group Migos, where he performed alongside Quavo and Takeoff.

Including the release of ‘Without Warning,’ his 2017 collaboration album with fellow Atlanta-based rapper named 21 Savage and American record producer Metro Boomin, Wave Set’s father has released one studio album, one collaborative album, one extended play, and twenty-five singles (including twenty-three as a featured artist).

His creative contributions to the American music industry have been rewarded with several accolades and nominations, not the least of which was the Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Performance he received in 2020 for the single, Clout. The song also featured West Set’s mother.

Wave Set’s Parents Had Him 4 Years Into Their Marriage

Wave Set was born more than four years after his parents had exchanged the marital vows that confirmed their relationship as a married couple. Several reliable sources confirm that the celebrity child’s parents started dating in 2017.

The exact details of how, when, and where they met have been overshadowed by the relatively more significant events that have followed since. One of those includes the fact that they secretly got married on September 20, 2017, before staging an elaborate proposal on October 27, 2017, at Power 99’s Powerhouse in Philadelphia.

The marriage has not been without its fair challenges, including some that could have spelled the end of the union, but Wave Set’s parents have been able to weather the storm, and have already surpassed the half-a-decade mark as a married couple. It is something that many consider impressive given their relatively turbulent relationship history.

Wave Set Has Had His Share Of Being In The Spotlight

Even before he was born, the public already knew that he was coming. Regardless, his parents waited until he was about seven months old before showing his face to the world and media via Instagram. He has since been a regular feature of the platform, at least on his mother’s page, where she shows him off at every opportunity.

Wave Set Cephus was born and is currently being raised in Atlanta, Georgia, alongside an older sister named Kulture Kari Cephus who was born on July 10, 2018, in Atlanta, and is currently 5 years old. While she is the only sibling he shares with both parents, she is by no means his only sibling. His father, Offset, has three children, two sons and a daughter, from previous relationships.

Wave’s oldest half-brother, Jordan Cephus, was born on December 21, 2009, from his father’s relationship with a woman named Justine Watson. Jordan is currently 14 years old.

On March 2, 2015, Wave Set Cephus’s second oldest half-brother, Kody Cephus, who is 9 years old now was born to his dad and his ex, Oriel Jamie.  Kalea Marie Cephus, his older half-sister was born on March 23, 2015, and is currently 9 years old. She is a product of Offset’s relationship with rapper Shya L’amour.

Wave Set’s Parents Chose His Name Before He Was Even Born

Just in case anyone has yet to notice, the name ‘Wave Set’ is not exactly a regular name, and it has understandably drawn the attention of the public and the media who want to understand its uniqueness. For starters, the celebrity child’s name ‘Wave’ was decided by his father before he was born, and his mother Cardi B was completely sold on the idea the moment he ran it by her.

His name could easily have been Wave Marley Cephus, but Cardi B did not like how Marley rolled off the tongue after her middle name Marnelis. That was when the couple decided to add Set to his name, after his father Offset.
