Charleston Spends His Money By Giving Back to His Community Through HYPE Youth Outreach

Charleston White established the non-profit organization called HYPE (Helping Young People Excel) Youth Outreach in 2012 to help the community and inspire the younger generations not to make the same mistake as he. He also volunteered in the juvenile department in Texas and has grown to be a good influence on those outside the state.

Charleston White was inspired to establish the outreach after his encounter with criminal life as a teenager. Having been deprived of good morals by both parents, the Youtuber lived a gangster life and was involved in many crimes.

At the age of 14, he left his home for that of his friend and began to live with him. With time, he and his friend began to pilfer and made away with anything that they could lay their hands on.

One fateful day, they stole an athletic jacket from a store and tried to get away with it, but a white man came up to stop them in a parking lot. Unfortunately, Charleston White and his friend shot him to death on the spot.

According to him, he didn’t pull the trigger but was responsible for the shooting. They were later caught and sentenced for murder under the Texas Determining Sentence Law.

This made them the first two juveniles in Tyrant County to be sentenced to jail for murder. Because he was underage, he was sent to the Texas Youth Council lockup for four years until he turned 18 and was moved to an adult facility. At the time he was to be moved to the adult facility, four juvenile correctional officers pleaded his case to the judge, putting their jobs on the line.

He was later returned to Giddings State School and remained there for a few months till he reached the age of 21. After serving seven years of his sentence, he was released in 1998. Charleston White stated that when he got out, his thinking capacity was still like that of a 14-year-old child.

This was because he couldn’t socialize for seven years, didn’t attend high school, or had the experience to succeed in society. After his release, he became influenced by his environment and went back to his criminal life, this time, engaging in drug trafficking.

He was apprehended when he was trying to move 10 pounds of marijuana in Oklahoma. Charleston defended himself against the charge and ended up with an inconclusive trial.

He was given the opportunity to choose between 6 months in prison boot camp or 5 years of deferred probation. The Youtuber chose the latter and had a good re-think about his life. He later enrolled at Texas Wesleyan University to earn a degree in criminal justice.

Having decided to do away with his past life, Charleston decided to set up the outreach so as to educate the younger ones on the need to stay away from crime. The outreach is also a source of income for Charleston White. Though it is not known how the outreach gets its funds, it still generates funds from sources.
