The actress was born on November 21, 1945, in Washington, D.C, to her mother, Laura Hawn who owned a jewellery shop and a dance school and father, Edward Rutledge Hawn who was a musician. Her family is of German, English and Jewish descent and practised Judaism. She grew up in Takoma Park, Maryland and at age three, started ballet dance classes. Her first performance on stage was in 1964 when she was featured as Juliet in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet during a Virginia Shakespearean festival. Hawn went to Montogomery Blair High School in Silver Spring before gaining admission into The American University to study drama but unfortunately dropped out by 1964.
In the mid-1960’s, Hawn relocated to California where she began her acting career being featured in the CBS comedy Good Morning, World. She later got a role in another short comedy show Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In where she played the hilarious part of a girl that laughs with a loud voice whenever a joke is being told then switching to a serious demeanour.
