Jan Schiltmeijer Met His Wife, Amber Ruffin, In 2008

In the essay, Amber told Glamour that she and her husband, both of whom were living in Amsterdam at the time, had met outside a bar, and had got talking. He tried to find out what part of Amsterdam she lived in and without knowing that he was a native, she tried to make up stories due to her ignorance of the area.

He called her out on that ignorance in the nicest way possible, and that set the tone for a date that took place only one week later.

After dating for a couple of years, Jan Schiltmeijer and Amber Ruffin decided that it was time to take their relationship to the next level, and so they did.

The couple lived for another year in Amsterdam, Holland, before deciding to move to Los Angeles, California, United States. Jan and his wife moved to Brooklyn, New York sometime later and they have been married for over a decade now.

He Does Not Have Any Children

Despite being married for over 10 years now, Jan Schiltmeijer does not have children of his own with his wife, Amber. Unconventionally, depending on your point of view, the absence of children in the Schiltmeijer household has been entirely by choice.

From what we have been able to uncover about the couple, that choice was made by the artist’s wife, Amber, but the dynamics of their union indicates that it is a decision that is backed up by Jan.

The comedian has been a vocal advocate of not having children, and during a sit-down with Michelle Wolf, she addressed the different reactions she has gotten from people about her choice to not have children.

Jan, however, has been one constant she can count on, and she remains grateful for his unflinching support, not just where it concerns her decision not to be a mother, but also in other aspects of their marriage, especially the part about them being an interracial couple (more on that later).

Jan Schiltmeijer Is A Full-Time Artist

Jan Schiltmeijer became a full-time artist in 2004 around four years before he met the comedian. His exceptional abilities helped him build a strong client base even without the aid of a website. His move to the United States in the early 2010s was fueled by a desire to expand his clientele and give more people the privilege to become familiar with his work.

He utilizes the medium of acrylic on canvas and everyone who has come across his work has said great things about them. His website provides the perfect platform to showcase his beautiful celebrity portrait paintings, including those of Walter White from Breaking Bad, C3P0 from the Star Wars movies, Marilyn Monroe, Nina Simone, Samuel L. Jackson, and several others.

He also paints still-life portraits of everyday objects, like Jelly beans and bottles of Ajax, but provides his own unique perspective on those paintings.

Jan Schiltmeijer And His Wife Have Faced Challenges As An Interracial Couple

Jan Schiltmeijer and his wife, Amber Ruffin, are no strangers to the challenges that interracial couples face regularly in the United States and several other parts of the world.

In her essay published on Glamour, she described the bliss they enjoyed during the first year of their marriage when people did not care about the fact that they were an interracial couple. Of course, at the time, they were living in Amsterdam where the issue of racism is not as pronounced.

Jan, however, was not prepared for the culture shock that he experienced after they moved to the United States. One instance that now lives rent-free in his head happened while they were out shopping. According to his wife, a white store attendant had followed them at a distance throughout their time there, and Jan recalls the experience with distaste.

Despite their different skin color, Jan and his wife have remained an example of what interracial marriages should be.
