Travis Scott’s story began in the South-Central State of Texas. A native of Houston, the state’s largest city, Scott was born Jacques Berman Webster II on April 20, 1992. His mother worked for Apple, while his father was a business owner.

Scott lived with his grandmother in South Park, Houston; a crime-ridden neighborhood until he was six. The crime, violence, and overall degradation of the place affected him and as a result, became a driving force for him. Determined to make things better for himself, Travis left his grandmother’s and moved to Missouri City to stay with his parents.

While in Missouri, Scott attended Elkins High School and graduated at the age of 17. He then enrolled at the University of Texas-San Antonio but dropped out in his second year to pursue his music career full-time.

Scott happens to come from a line of musicians; his father is a soul musician, while his grandfather was a jazz composer.

He moved to New York City after dropping out of UTSA to pursue his music career. The move enraged his parents, and it wasn’t long before they cut him off financially.

How His Music Career Began

Travis Scott got into the music world in 2008. He first formed the duo, The Graduates, with his longtime friend Chris Holloway. Afterward, he released his first EP on the social media site MySpace.

In 2009, Scott teamed up with schoolmate OG Chess to form The Classmates. Together, they released the projects Buddy Rich (2009) and Cruis’n USA (2010), with Scott handling most of the production. The two stayed together until their split in 2012.

Abandoned by his friend who promised to help in Los Angeles, and cut off financially from his parents, Travis Scott was forced to move back with his parents. They eventually kicked him out of the house, and he had to move back again to Los Angeles.

This time, he was able to stay with a friend who attended the University of Southern California. While staying in Los Angeles, rapper and CEO of Grand Hustle Records, T.I., heard Travis Scott’s song and contacted Scott for them to meet up, hence his breakthrough.
