Darryl Baum, also known as Darryl Hommo Baum, was an American felony who was popular as the personal bodyguard of Mike Tyson. He was the person behind the bullet that hit the American rapper 50 Cent nine times in 2000.
Darryl Baum was shot dead three weeks after shooting 50 Cent. While he was alive, he committed series of crimes and was badly wanted by the authorities. He was a member of a gang, Killed several people, and was involved in drug business.

Darryl Baum was an American crime suspect who was wanted for many crimes. He was born in 1980 in Brooklyn, New York, USA to American parents. Information regarding his parents is not known to the public. The number of siblings that Darryl had is also unknown but one of his siblings, Tyrone, was shot in July 2003, just three years after his death.
Following the death of Darryl, Tyrone set out to avenge his death but things went sour as he ended up piling up enemies for himself. The same gang that killed his brother eventually killed him too. He was shot thrice on his head at a construction site in Reid avenue.
Though it is not known if he had a degree, Darryl Baum did his primary and high school in Brooklyn, New York, USA. In as much as he was involved in lots of crimes, he was still good friends with the American boxing super star Mike Tyson. Their friendship started when they were kids. They both went to the same prison in the 1990s for crimes and their friendship became strong while in the prison.
Before the boxer left the prison, he promised Darryl a job when he comes out. Consequently, after Darryl was released in the late 90s, Mike Tyson made him his right hand man and personal bodyguard. As at the time before his death, he was living with Mike Tyson.
After he was murdered, the boxer put a $25,000 bounty on the killer’s head. Additionally, he also dedicated his 38-second knock out of Lou Savarese in June 2000 to him.
The Bodyguard Shot 50 Cent 9 Times Following Some Gang Issues
The famous American rapper Curtis James Jackson III who goes by the stage name 50 Cent was shot in front of his grandmothers house in Queens. News had it that the rapper started doing drugs as a minor and went to juvenile detention. Having grown up in the streets, he had a bad orientation as a kid and got involved with the wrong people.
Prior to the hit, the rapper had a fall out with some gang members who badly wanted him dead. He also had an unresolved issue with the members of the Murder Inc. label. 50 Cent was known to throw shades at the label’s star, Ja Rule, and this was unacceptable to the members of the label. It was alleged to be among the reasons they wanted to kill him.
In addition, the rapper who have been once involved in illegal drug activities recorded a revealing song that was yet to be released. The song exposed the deals of a drug baron known as Supreme who goes by the real name Kenneth McGriff. This made the drug baron to place a hit on the rapper. At this point, Darryl Baum got involved in the plan and was set to carry out the deal.
On May 20, 2000, Darryl Baum shot 50 Cent in front of his grandmother’s house. After the rapper left his grandmother’s apartment to join his friends in a car parked outside, Darryl dropped from another car and shot him with a 99mm shot gun.
He shot the rapper nine times on different parts of his body (arm, head, chest, face, hips, leg, and hand). 50 Cent spent about 13 days in the hospital and took about 5 months to heal. Supreme was later sentenced to life imprisonment for the attempted murder.
Darryl Baum Was Shot Dead In June 2000
On June 10, 2000, three weeks after Darryl Baum shot the American rapper, he was shot to death in a drug related war. The reason for his murder was because of his association with a rival drug gang member known as Ivory Davis. It was revealed that Ivory’s nephew shot a Myron, a rival drug gang’s brother named Hardy.
In retaliation, Hardy and his gang member known as Cash Money Brothers set out on a war. Unfortunately, Darryl Baum was shot at the back of his head during the hit at the corner of Quincy Street and Marcy Avenue in Brooklyn. Hardy alongside his gang members namely Dwayne Meyers, Abubakr Raheem Cooke were charged for the murder of Darryl.
Mike Tyson and 50 Cent Still Serve Friendship Goals
Irrespective of the fact that Mike Tyson’s right hand man and personal bodyguard shot at 50 Cent with the aim of killing him, the duo are still friends. They have been spotted severally partying together. In 2003 when the boxer went bankrupt, he put up one of his old mansion located at Connecticut for sale. The rapper went on to acquire the property for the sum of $4.1 million.
The mansion is a 50,000 square foot home has 21 bedrooms, hot tub, recording room, 25 bathrooms, indoor court, recording studio, an indoor pool, and multiple game rooms. The rapper owned the property for 15 years and sold it at a lesser price of $2.9 million in 2019. To date, the two celebrities are still friends.
