Do you remember that introverted kid with anger and withdrawal issues who used to blast red beams of scorching justice from his eyes in 2016’s X-Men? Yes, he went by the character name Cyclops for the movie. Turns out he is not as mean in real life; Tye Sheridan has only been around since 2011 and didn’t even know if he wanted to go into acting. However, fast forward a few years later and the young man from Texas has built quite a portfolio.
Sheridan has worked alongside veteran directors and producers like Steven Spielberg and Terrence Malick and has also shared the set with Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Aniston, John Travolta, Nicolas Cage, Brad Pitt and a lot of other famous names. With his excellent character portrayals and numerous nominations and awards, Sheridan has set himself up quite nicely to be a real force in the movie industry for decades to come.
Who is Tye Sheridan?
Tye Kayle Sheridan was born in Elkhart, Texas on November 11, 1996. His parents, Bryan Sheridan and Stephanie Sheridan made a decent living; one worked as an employee of the shipping company UPS and the other as the owner of a beauty salon. Bryan and Stephanie also gave Tye a younger sibling, Madison Sheridan. It is not clear when he graduated from school, however, he enrolled and went through his pre-college education at the Elkhart Independent School District.
It seems like the then-greenhorn actor was dropped smack dab in the middle of fame. His first casting was as the character Steve in the movie Tree of Life with greats like Jessica Chastain and Brad Pitt. The movie bagged a Palme d’Or award and was also nominated for an Academy. Sheridan’s excellence in the movie was noticed by many within the industry and IndieWire named him in their 2011 edition of “Top 25 Filmmakers and Actors”.
His next project was a lead role in 2012’s drama Mud alongside McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon. He followed this up by playing Gary in Joe alongside Nicolas Cage in 2013. In 2014, he then played the role of Will Cutter, the son of John Travolta’s character, Ray Cutter. In the same year, he showed up in his first television role as Justin, making a guest appearance on 3 episodes of Last Man Standing.
The year 2015 was the busiest year of his career yet. Tye Sheridan was cast in 5 movie projects. He was Eddie the Opener in Entertainment, the son in Last Days in the Desert, and Prisoner 819/ Peter Mitchell in The Stanford Prison Experiment. He then followed these up with supporting roles in Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse and Dark Places.
His most recognized role yet came when he joined the heroes of the Marvel’s X-Men in X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016. He was the red-eyed Scott Summers/Cyclops for the film. The following year he was on set with Jennifer Aniston and a host of others for The Yellow Birds where he played Daniel Murphy. His last project for 2017 saw him portray the character Conrad Stevens in All Summers End.
Another busy year for the actor, Tye Sheridan started off 2018 as the lead character Wade Watts/Parzival in Spielberg’s Ready Player One. He followed this up as Ritchie in Friday’s Child, and Andy in The Mountain. He also provided the voice of the turtle in Crow: The Legend and made a cameo as Cyclops in Deadpool 2. He is also set to reprise his role as Cyclops for the movie Dark Phoenix and as Bart Bromley in The Night Clerk.
Is He Gay?
As the world has become more accepting of homosexuality and alternative sexual orientations, a plethora of movies have come out in a bid to create awareness and educate the world about this sensitive subject. Actors and actresses – many of whom are straight – have also been celebrated by the LGBT community for their support and even portrayal of gay characters in popular movies.
Tye Sheridan hasn’t played any gay role yet, however, he is said to fit the profile of a young, and attractive gay man solely on the basis of his looks and physical attributes. Sheridan has been considered a “twink” – alongside Zac Efron, Lucas Hedges and more – in many circles for this very reason, however, by all indications, it appears that the actor is as straight as can be.
