Tony Revolori is the charismatic and bubbly American actor who got his big break in Hollywood after starring as “Flash Thompson” alongside Tom Holland in the critically acclaimed Marvel Produced superhero movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming, released in 2017. Prior to the Spider-Man movie, he was popular among the kids for his 2014 role as Zero Moustafa in the movie, The Grand Budapest Hotel. Now he is billed to star in a handful of upcoming movies which could push him up further as a star; hopefully, a reprisal of his role as a bully in the Spider-man sequel is one of them. More interesting details below.
Who Is Tony Revolori?
Tony Revolori (whose birth name is Anthony Quiñonez) was born and raised in Anaheim, California, to parents, Sonia Quiñonez and Mario Quiñonez on the 28th of April 1996. He decided to change his surname before venturing into acting because he thought it would be a lot cooler and more marketable than his surname “Quiñonez.” The name Revolori happens to be the surname of his paternal grandmother.
Tony Revolori’s career as an actor began at a very young age. As a child actor, his very first feature was at age two, when he appeared in a baby food commercial. Later on, he would get his first major acting role in the Wes Anderson comedy series titled, The Grand Budapest Hotel, where he played the role of Young Zero Moustafa. Soon enough in 2014, IndieWire dubbed Tony Revolori one of the best actors under the age of twenty.
His major breakthrough role came after being cast as Flash Thompson in the 2017 reboot of the Spider-Man movie (Spider-Man-Homecoming). After the success of the movie at the box office, Tony Revolori was subsequently billed to play a lead role in the Hannah Fidell’s comic movie titled, The Long Dumb Road (2018).
Family – Parents, Ethnicity, Siblings
From his looks, it doesn’t take a soothsayer to tell that Tony is not your typical Caucasian lad and this is as a result of the family he was born into. His father, Mario Quiñonez and mother Sonia Quiñonez are originally from Jutiapa, Guatemala where they both worked as actors before immigrating to the United States. Tony has just one brother named Mario Revolori. Interestingly, just like Tony and his parents, Mario Revolori is also an actor. Guess the love and passion for the performing arts runs in the family.
Why Did He Receive Death Threat?
With the ease of access to the internet and social media platforms, it has made it possible for anyone from anywhere in the world to sit down in the comfort of their space and dish out just about anything that comes to mind, of which a major part is the increase of unpleasant criticisms as well as unprovoked death threats to innocent people including famous celebrities. Unfortunately, Tony Revolori is the latest victim of this issue. Recently, after having played the role of a bully on the Spiderman movie, he received a barrage of hate mails and death threats which he has described as utterly despicable. Apparently, a few fans of spidey took it a bit too seriously than it was.
Moreso, this hostile reaction stemmed from the fact that his ethnical background and that of the character he portrayed in the comics were different. Thus, making it obvious the threats were borne out of racism. Though shaken up by the hate mails and threats, he has stated that he loved playing the character of Flash Thompson and really hopes he doesn’t lose the role based on such vile acts by very mean people.
Acting as a career especially in Hollywood requires a certain grade of looks to go with the job. Apart from facial appearance, features like height, weight, body shape, and physique play a major part in the casting process except for roles that require an actor to look a certain way. Tony Revelori is lacking a bit in the height department standing at an average 5 feet 4 inches (163 cm). Luckily for him, so far most roles which he has been given were based on his acting talents as well as the fact that he fits the character description of such roles.
