The actor spent most of his childhood days in London and he is said to have gone to Aldro and Seaford College but since he had interests in acting, he later enrolled into the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).
In 1992, Toby landed his first acting role in the film Orlando by Sally Potter where he was cast as Othello and upon his graduation from the film institute LAMDA, he landed a lead role in William Shakespeare’s Coriolanus. He also made an appearance in another work of William Shakespeare titled Twelfth Night as directed by Trevor Nunn. Another remarkable role Toby Stephens is known for is as Gustav Graves in the 2012 Agent 007 James Bond film Die Another Day and the movie gained him a lot of recognition. He made some other appearances in movies like Photographing Fairies, Cousin Bette, Onegin, Sunset Heights, The Announcement, Space Cowboys, The Machine, The Journey and many others.

However, the actor lost his dear stepfather in 1998 but prior to that he had lost his biological father in 1995.
