Tia Carrere Biography
She was born Althea Rae Janairo on January 2, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She grew up with her parents; Audrey Duhinio Janairo her mother and Alexander Janairo, her father. As a child, Tia wanted to be a singer and started from her days at all-girls Sacred Hearts Academy to exhibit this interest. This passion of hers drove her to compete in the 1985 Star Search talent show. However, she never made it to the final stage. But Carrere caught the attention of a local producer subsequently and was given a role in the movie Aloha Summer from where she started her journey to prominence.
Tia worked as a model for some months before she got another role in a TV series Airwolf in 1985. The singer and actress got her first major role n the popular soap opera General Hospital as Jade Soong. She then appeared in the MacGyver series as a karate instructor. Tia continued to make appearances on many other shows until 1991 when she got her next movie role. She starred in the action movie Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man and also starred in Showdown in Little Tokyo. Carrere’s next movie Wayne’s World (1992) shot her to fame after a remarkable performance. Her career never remained the same since that year.
