His popular big-screen projects include The Rebound, Being Flynn, Fun Size, The Wolf of Wall Street, Entanglement, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. While one wouldn’t regard him as an A-lister, the Canadian entertainer has recorded more success on television with roles like Richard Hendricks in Silicon Valley; Terry in Solar Opposites, and Drew Dunbar in B Positive. Stream of Blood: Vampires of Pittsburgh, The Morning After, Jake and Amir, and CollegeHumor Originals, are some of the most notable web series he has been a part of.
In all of these, Silicon Valley is the work that has defined Thomas’ career. It won him the Satellite Awards for Best Actor in a Television Series Musical or Comedy in 2020 amongst a handful of nominations for other coveted awards.
7. The Canadian Actor Made Most of His $7 Million Net Worth From Acting
Thomas Middleditch’s career-defining moment came in 2014 when he landed the lead role of Richard Hendricks in the HBO comedy television series, Silicon Valley. While it is the role that turned things around for him in the competitive industry, he had been making a living as an actor since 2008. From movies to television and web series, he has so far pulled off at least 80 credits as an actor. Anyone with half an eye shouldn’t be told that acting is the major source of his wealth.
The Silicon Valley actor is now armed with a diverse array of talents and experience which has made it possible for him to also make a living as a screenwriter and producer. He has thus far executed the production of two TV series: Memoirs of a Manchild and Middleditch & Schwartz. He wrote both of the series in addition to other projects like Mint in Box, Jake and Amir, CollegeHumor Originals, Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero, and Fort Puleyne. What he has made from all of these isn’t known to the public but there are no doubts they have contributed a significant amount to his net worth of $7 million.
6. Thomas Middleditch Was Married to Mollie Gates from 2015 to 2021
Thomas Middleditch was once married to a woman identified as Mollie Gates. Like him, she also works in the movie industry as a costume designer. The actor dated the costume designer for about three years before they decided to take the relationship to the next phase. They got engaged in June 2015 and on the 22nd of August 2015, they got married.
Sometime in May 2020, Gates filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. On the 8th of April 2021, they finalized their divorce. From what we gathered, they had quite an amicable dissolution of their marriage but the Silicon Valley alum was ordered to pay Mollie Gates $2.625 million as part of their civil settlement agreement.
Gates left the marriage that lasted for four years without spousal support and apart from the aforementioned amount that Middleditch is mandated to pay her, he gets to keep most of his properties and business entities. There was no child custody battle as the union didn’t produce any child.
5. The Actor and His Ex-wife Were Swingers and It Might Have Contributed to The End of Their Marriage
In a 2019 interview with Playboy, Thomas Middleditch disclosed that he was in an open marriage with his ex-wife. Proclaiming that they were swingers, the actor stated that it saved their marriage. From what he shared, it seems he was the one that wanted an open marriage. Thomas said he told Mollie Gates after they got married that they “have to get nontraditional” and praised the costume designer for not backing out of the marriage thereafter.
Adding that they have different sexual preferences which had them always arguing over it, the actor detailed that they had a strict rule that governed their swinging lifestyle: they swing together as a unit. It seems Gates wasn’t happy about Middleditch sharing such an intimate aspect of their private life with the public. In April 2020, when he featured on The Daily Beast‘s “The Last Laugh” podcast, he admitted that it was a painful mistake. “It’s a thing I wish I could take back,” said the famous actor.

4. Thomas Was Accused of Sexual Harassment a Month Before He and Gates Finalized Their Divorce
If there was any hope that the actor and Mollie Gates would reconcile, it probably shattered when it was alleged that Middleditch sexually harassed women in March 2021. A Los Angeles Times article related that the incident happened at a goth club in Los Angeles called Cloak & Dagger. Amongst other things, it was said that he groped a woman’s breast.
One of the victims of the sexual misconduct named Hannah Harding detailed that after the actor groped her and another woman, he sent her DMs wherein he claimed that he wasn’t aware that what he did was weird for her and expressed that he is ashamed of his actions.
Although the incident happened in 2019, the fact that it came to light when he and Gates were heading for divorce might have hastened the end of their marriage.
3. He Is 41 Years Old and Was Born to English Immigrants
While he is known across the globe for his many acting roles and has shared intimate details about his love life, many things are yet to be learned about his family background and upbringing. While some reports have claimed that he isn’t the only child of his Jewish parents, that he has an older brother, nothing else is known about that. Nonetheless, it’s no secret that the actor was born on the 10th of March 1982. His place of birth was in Nelson, a small city you would find in the Southern Interior of British Columbia, Canada.
It is said that Thomas was very shy and reserved during his childhood but changed in eighth grade after he was cast in a school play. Thereafter, he devoted much time to practicing improvisational theater and soon became the toast of his entire school.

When it was time to further his education at the tertiary level, the actor settled for the University of Victoria but was so bent on becoming a professional actor that he dropped out and relocated to Toronto where he enrolled into George Brown Theatre School. But then, he never took his studies seriously as he devoted more time to creating comedy sketches and working in a clothing store to get by.
After a while, he left Toronto for the United States where he settled in Chicago and started performing with iO Theater and The Second City. He later auditioned for NBC’s Saturday Night Live but failed to land a spot on the popular show. Nonetheless, it paved way for him to get a deal that saw him relocate to New York City. In New York, he began getting several TV commercial roles and then small acting roles. Eventually, he got his first lead role as Justin Frost in a 2010 romantic comedy film titled Splinterheads. Thomas has been a busy actor since then.
1. His Silicon Valley Character Was Specifically Created for Him

Apart from the aforementioned Satellite Awards it won him in 2020, it earned him a Primetime Emmy Awards nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, this was in 2016. One fact that most people don’t know about the role is that it was created for Middleditch.
As the story goes, creators of the show had stumbled upon a comedic routine that the actor had produced and it inspired them to create the Richard Hendricks Silicon Valley role for him.
