The New Mutant was initially scheduled to be released on April 13, 2018, but following a couple of films lined up to be produced and released by Marvel Entertainment, it was then pushed further to a better accommodating date. The release of films such as Deadpool 2 (2018) and Dark Phoenix (2019) were the reasons why The New Mutants’ release date was shifted. The New Mutants was filmed around the same period Dark Phoenix (2019) and Deadpool 2 (2018) were filmed but in separate locations. The New Mutants is scheduled to be released on April 3, 2020.

The New Mutants has been announced to be the final installment of the X-Men film series. Magik is a Russian mutant superheroine who has sorcery powers. The role is portrayed by the American-born English actress and model, Anya Taylor-Joy who is known for her role in the Canadian supernatural horror film, The Witch.
English actress Maisie Williams is on the cast list as Wolfsbane, whose mutant ability is to shapeshift from her human nature into a wolf-like humanoid. The multiple award-winning actress is best known for her roles in films Mary Shelley, Then Came You and in TV series Game of Thrones and gen: LOCK.
Cannonball is a mutant with the ability to propel himself into the air and he is portrayed by British actor Charlie Heaton.
Henry Zaga starred in the film as the Brazilian mutant Sunspot. Sunspot has the ability to absorb and manipulate solar energy.
Mirage is the fifth mutant superhero in the film and she is portrayed by Blu Hunt. Mirage has the mutant ability of telepathy.

The villain of the superhero horror film is Reverend Craig Sinclair. Reverend Craig is the abusive father of Rahne and also the leader of the terrorist organization. The Purifiers themselves picture themselves to be the saints in their acclaimed war against mutants whom they refer to as unclean and children of the devil and need to be exterminated.
Reverend Craig, the leader of the villain group is portrayed by American actor Happy Anderson. The 42-year-old actor would be starring in his first Marvel film. His most noticeable appearances have come in The Knick and Mindhunter. He also appeared in the Netflix films Bright and Bird Box.
