Tea Leoni is a Hollywood actress and producer who stepped into the spotlight in 1995 starring as Julie Mott in Michael Bay‘s action comedy film Bad Boys alongside Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.  She has starred in countless other films and television series and has bagged several awards as proof of her hard work and outstanding performances. Who is Tea Leoni? 

Tea was born Elizabeth Pantaleoni on the 28th day of February 1966 in the city of New York to Anthony and  Emily Ann Pantaleoni. Her father is a lawyer and her mother a dietician and nutritionist. Tea Leoni is not an only child, she has a brother named Thomas.

Leoni is from a family of intellectuals and of mixed heritage; her grandfather is of Italian, English, Irish descent while her grandmother is of Polish American descent. She grew up in Englewood, New Jersey, and New York City respectively, and attended Brearley school  New York and later The Putney School, Vermont. After high school, she proceeded to Sarah Lawrence College to further her studies but would drop out after her first year to pursue a career in acting.

Career

Her journey into the entertainment industry began in 1988 after she attended an audition for the TV series Angels 88.  She was selected for the lead role after the audition in the series but due to production delays, the TV show was never aired. The following year, she landed the role of Lisa DiNapoli in NBC soap opera Santa Barbara, appearing in six episodes.

In 1991, she made her first appearance in a movie by playing a minor role in the movie Switch, the following year she appeared in the Sports comedy film ‘A league of their own’. Her big break came in 1995 when she starred alongside Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in the action comedy movie Bad Boys – the movie was a huge success and launched Tea Leoni into a new phase in her acting career announcing her as a rising star in the industry.

The success of the movie brought her multiple offers to star in other movies such as Jurassic Park, The family man, Deep Impact, Spangling a comedy-drama film where she played Adams Sandler’s wife. She was also in Fun with Dick and Jane as Jane Harper alongside Jim Carrey and in the crime drama film People I know which was a box office success as Jilli Hopper.

After spending almost a decade in the industry, Tea Leoni returned to Television series with a lead role in CBS’ political television drama Madam Secretary where she performed as Elizabeth McCord, a secretary of state and former CIA analyst, the TV show received a good number of reviews and acceptance from the general audience and has thus far contributed more to the ever increasing popularity of Leoni. Her performance in the series earned her People’s Choice Award nomination for favorite actress in new TV series in 2014 and a CBS MVP awards for best-motivated speech in 2016.

Leoni is not married at the moment but has been dating Hollywood actor and producer James Timothy Daly, popularly known as Tim Daly since 2014. Daly is also her Madam Secretary’s co-star.

Tea Leoni has, however, been married twice. Her first marriage was to TV commercial producer, Neil Joseph Tardio, Jr. They got married in June 1991, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Hope, NJ and divorced four years later (1995). They had no kids together.

Her second marriage was to actor David Duchovny. The couple tied the knots in May 1997 after courting for eight months. They had two kids together; a son and a daughter (Kyd Miller Duchovny and Madelaine West Duchovny).

In 2008, it was everywhere in the media that the couple had been separated for several months; their separation was allegedly linked to Duchovny’s sex addiction, however, they were able to get back together but not for long as they finally ended their marriage with a divorce in 2014.
