In an interview he had with MTV in 2009, Taylor Lautner admitted that he struggled to gain weight in other to adapt to the physical demands of his character in The Twilight Saga: New Moon. He revealed that he was left with no option but to double the number of calories he takes and even had to eat at least every 2 hours to make sure he gained the weight he needed to portray his character effectively.

Admittedly, this was a very tough job to do but being that his profession required it, Taylor persevered and gained the appropriate weight and also transformed his physique the way it was needed for his character. He gained 30 pounds of body mass, most of which were visible on his frame to depict the werewolf persona of his character. He wasn’t necessarily fat as the term “gaining weight” would ordinarily suggest. Instead, he became more muscular, and this comes with some heavyweight.

News about Taylor’s weight gain began circulating sometime in the year 2015 when he was reported to appear in a Fox TV series titled Scream Queens. A once moderately muscular Taylor Lautner appeared to have put on a lot of flesh as noticed in his chubby face and bigger body.

In a 2009 interview published by The Washington Post, the actor revealed he follows a strict exercise regimen of at least 2-hours of daily workouts to stay fit. More to this, Taylor signed up with Jordan’s Virtual Fit Club and was under the tutelage of Jordan Yuan in other to transform his body.

Regarding his training routine, Yuan revealed that he had to add 40% more weight to what was ordinarily appropriate for Taylor at the time. He also engaged him in several exercises that specifically targeted his hip and chest muscles. These exercises include swiss ball pikes, reverse crunches, swiss ball legs curl, hanging leg raises, and prone cobra. Owing to their unique nature, Taylor performed each exercise strictly under the supervision of Yuan.

Aside from these exercises, Taylor Lautner also placed himself on an extreme diet and made sure he ate at least every 120 minutes. He revealed he had to carry burger patties in Ziploc bags so he could be able to eat in between meetings. He also revealed that while in movie locations, his trainer would sometimes wake him up as early as 6 in the morning so he could have some protein shake, after which he could go back to sleep and sleep for a couple more hours before they start filming.

What Happened To Taylor Lautner’s Abs?

Contrary to what many people assume, Taylor Lautner has had abs since he was a child. In a throwback beach picture he took with his training instructor, a young 7 years old Taylor Lautner could be seen shirtless, showing off his well-reaped abs. This goes a long way to confirm his claim that he has always loved working out, and the results are apparent in his body.

However, he seemed to have lost his physique a bit prior to or in his public appearance in 2015 when he was seen to be noticeably chubby with a fat face. Though he has not made any comments on why he looked so much different from his usual form, the assumption is that Taylor’s abs lost form during that time.
