Tawny Kitaen is an American actress, media personality and comedian who is best recognized for appearing as a vixen in a number of music videos of the 80’s rock n’ roll band, Whitesnake. We take a look at her journey to stardom as well as what she has been involved with in recent years.
Tawny Kitaen Bio (Age)
Tawny was born Julie E. Kitaen on the 5th day of August 1961 in San Diego, California. Her father, Terry Kitaen worked for a neon sign company while her mother Linda Née Taylor was a model who participated in beauty pageants before becoming a housewife. Kitaen, at her own will, changed her name to Tawny when she was 12 years old.
During high school, Tawny Kitaen was the social type with many of her friends being aspiring entertainers. Her high school sweetheart was Robbin Crosby who would become popular as the guitarist of the rock band Ratt. While they dated, Kitaen traveled with the band on tours and relocated with them to Los Angeles with plans to begin her own show business career.
A former gymnast, Tawny Kitaen had the Hollywoodesque physique and was ready to give acting a try. She made her debut in the 1983 TV film, Malibu. The following year she made her film debut as a lead character in the erotic-adventure film, The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik-Yak. Kitaen next starred opposite Tom Hanks in Bachelor Party (1984). She also played the lead in the 1986 horror film, Witchboard.
Despite all of her endeavors in film and television, Tawny Kitaen had not risen to the level of being considered a household name until she began appearing as a provocative vixen in a number of music videos of the British rock band, Whitesnake. The music videos were those of hit songs; “Here I Go Again”, “Still of the Night”, “Is This Love,” and “The Deeper The Love.”
The huge visibility of the videos on MTV propelled Tawny Kitaen to widespread recognition. Though she would later call it quits with the band’s lead singer to whom she was married, Kitaen kept up with her career. Her next major gig was as a recurring character in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
Tawny Kitaen has achieved a commendable level of success in her career. Starring in a string of films and TV shows over the years has earned her a net worth estimated at half a million dollars ($500, 000).
Husband and Daughters
Tawny Kitaen has been married and divorced twice and is currently without a husband. However, her relationship with the Whitesnake lead singer David Coverdale who went on to become her husband would probably always be remembered as far as rock n’ roll history is concerned.
They got married on the 12 of February 1989, a period when the British rock band was at the peak of their success. While the marriage was Kitaen’s first, it was the second for Coverdale who had been previously married to a German lady named Julia Borkowski with whom he had one daughter, Jessica.
Kitaen and Coverdale were the “it” couple of the 80s, but unfortunately, their marriage didn’t last as long as fans had hoped for. Just two years into the union, things turned sour and the two were headed for the rocks. Their divorce was finalized in April 1991. Coverdale had a couple of flings before finding love again in the eyes of Cindy, an author to whom he is still married to. Kitaen’s union with Coverdale produced no children.
A few years after her divorce, Tawny Kitaen began a relationship with ace baseball player Chuck Finley. The couple stayed married for five years until 2002 when their union ended in a debacle. Finley filed for divorce from her after news surfaced that she was charged with domestic violence.
Per reports, she had kicked Finley repeatedly in the face while wearing high-heeled shoes. She was restrained from seeing Finley and was asked to enroll in a spousal battery program. The couple was blessed with two daughters; Wynter Merin Finley born on March 18, 1993, and Raine Finley born on June 1, 1998. Kitaen’s daughters appeared with her in the debut season of the VH1 reality TV show, Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.
Where is She Now?
Tawny Kitaen has managed to stay relevant for a long time. Though her heydays were the 80’s and early 90’s, Kitaen still kept up with her career into the new millennium, hosting shows and scoring parts in TV films. Despite her fair level of success, Kitaen hasn’t been without her own personal issues.
Between 2006 and 2009 she twice had run-ins with the law. She was first found in cocaine possession and later busted for DUI. The actress later got clean and went on with her life. She had a role in the 2014 film, Naked After Midnight.
However, Tawny Kitaen now appears to have slowed down on her activity in the industry and is now more interested in spending time with her daughters.
In 2017, she appeared in the E! show Botched and had her breast implants removed. She revealed that over the course of her life, she battled self-consciousness and underwent 6 breast enhancement procedures.
