Tavon Austin first came into this world on March 15, 1990. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States of America. He is of Afro-American ethnic descent and holds an American nationality. Austin grew up in Baltimore where he attended Dunbar High School. While at Dunbar High, Austin participated in various sporting activities including football as well as other track and field events.

Tavon Austin was drafted by the St. Louis Rams as the 8th overall selection in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft. He signed up with the Rams with a four-year contract worth $12.751 million including a signing bonus of $7.653 million. During his rookie year, he played 13 games for the Rams and recorded 40 receptions with 418 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. He was named NFC Special teams Player of the Week in Week 10 after an outstanding performance against Indianapolis Colts. He led the Rams to a win with a 38-8 record.
