RuPaul‘s Drag Race has brought to the limelight, a number of drag performers and Sutan Amrull happens to be one of them. Since emerging as the winner of the third season of the reality TV competition series, Amrull’s career has been on the rise. In addition to performing drag, Amrull mints as a make-up artist with his clientele including a fair number of A-listers like RuPaul, Pamela Anderson, Tyra Banks, and Adam Lambert. Sutan Amrull Bio (Age, Ethnicity)
Sutan Amrull was born on the 14th of June 1974 in Baldwin Park, California. Three years after his birth, his family relocated to his home country Indonesia. He remained in the land of his father until he turned 9 years old when the relocated to America. It is not known which of the many ethnic groups in Indonesia that Amrull hails from.
At the age of 16, Amrull, also known as Raja Gemini (his drag persona), began impersonating the female gender and soon got encultured into the drag queen scene of Los Angeles. He studied arts in college for a couple of years before dropping out to chase a career as a make-up artist and drag queen.
Before becoming a crowned drag queen, Sutan Amrull first gained prominence in the make-up department of America’s Next Top Model. He worked with models and judges of the show from 2005 to 2009. In 2008, he appeared in the short film, The Young and Evil which was inspired by a book of the same name by Charles Henri Ford and Parker Tyler.
In 2011, he joined the third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race and emerged as the winner and was crowned America’s Next Drag Superstar. He became the first Asian-American to win the title. Sutan Amrull has made guest appearances in subsequent seasons of the reality TV show including Seasons 4 and 8.
Sutan Amrull has successfully utilized his fame as a crowned drag queen. He dabbled into music in 2011 and has since continued to release tracks occasionally. His debut single made the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs. He appeared as an animated version of himself in a November 2018 episode of The Simpsons titled “Werking Mom”. Sutan Amrull’s net worth has been estimated to fall between $500,000 and $1 million.
Sutan Amrull married his year-long boyfriend Ryan Paul Turner on the 14th of December 2017. The couple had met three years prior in 2015 on Facebook and kept their friendship platonic until 2016 when they started a romantic relationship that ultimately blossomed into marriage.
Not much is known about Amrull’s boyfriend-turned-husband except for the fact that he is from Toronto, the place where they first met physically following a period of stalking each other online. Amrull was over at Toronto for a pride event held at the Toronto Library when he first met Ryan in person. As he narrated to Hornet, he was on his way up the elevator when he saw Ryan just after his doors opened.
A wedding for the two was most likely to come as their relationship appeared to be lasting, judging by the cute Instagram posts they kept dedicating to each other. In Amrull’s words to Hornet, they knew quite early that they wanted to get married but the big day came somewhat in the spur of the moment.
The official side of things seemed to be the only hindrance to their union so, when they finally got all the paperwork ready with the City Hall, they decided immediately to tie the knot. On the day they made up their minds, they called up family and friends and fixed the ceremony for the next day. The event took place at Norwalk, California.
Gracing the event were Amrull’s mother, his two sisters, his brother-in-law, as well as his best friends from RuPaul’s Drag Race, Delta Work, and Manila Luzon. The ceremony was followed by an intimate reception at Padre’s restaurant in Long Beach.
Sutan Amrull might always need to wear heels as a drag queen but he is naturally tall standing at a height of 6 feet 3 inches. His weight and other body stats are not available but he keeps a fit body.
