Steven Culp – Biography
Also spelled Stephen, Steven Culp was born Steven Bradley Culp in La Jolla, San Diego, California, in the United States of America on December 3, 1955. Steven was born into a middle-class family. His father, Bryan Harvey, was a Naval officer, while his mother was Mary-Ann Joseph. His biological parents divorced each other while Steven was still very young and his father moved from San Diego to Virginia with him, alongside his two sisters.
Steven’s mother, Mary-Ann later re-married a Naval officer, John Raymond Grabinsky, just like his father. He also has two half-sisters – Kathryn Harvey and Shelly Grabinsky. Unfortunately, on New Year’s day in 2006, Steven’s half-sister, Kathryn Harvey, was gruesomely murdered in her home, by some unknown assailants. Kathryn’s two daughters – Stella and Ruby, alongside her husband, Bryan, were also murdered on the same day.
Steven completed his high school studies at the First Colonial High School in Virginia, while in school he was voted as the “Most Talented” student. Thereafter, he got admission into the College of William and Mary, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature in 1978; based upon the advice of his professors in college, he went on to study further in the United Kingdom, at the University of Exeter. Not yet done with his academic pursuit, he enrolled for his Master’s degree in Brandeis University in Massachusetts, in the United States.
Steven has featured in 18 full feature movies to date and he has appeared in well over 70 television series; all in a career spanning nearly four decades. He began his career starring as Tom Nelson in the television series, Another World in 1982. He has also starred in very popular television series JAG (Special Agent Clayton Webb), The Orville as Wilks, Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Parker and the popular Desperate Housewives as Rex Van de Kamp.
Culp also featured in very popular movies such as The Last Word where he played the role of Sam Seaman, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Star Trek Nemesis, and Jason Goes to Hell where he portrayed the character, Robert Campbell. Steven has won the Screen Actor’s Guild award for “Best Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble” twice, in 2005 and 2006.
The past relationships of Steven Culp have not been made known to the public, but as of today, he is happily married. Sometime in 1987, while filming on the set of “Gore Vidal’s Lincoln” in Richmond, Virginia in the United States, he was introduced to Barbara Ayers, who was one of the costume designers on set. They became friends and started dating shortly after their initial meeting.
A few years later, Steven proposed to Barbara, and she accepted his proposal. They eventually got married on September 29, 1990. They have been happily married ever since and have managed to stay scandal free. Due to the nature of their busy careers, Steven and Barbara decided not to have children, till when their very busy schedules would permit them to fully focus on their family and children.
On October 6, 2001, they had their first children – a set of twins named Joseph Raymond (son) and Katherine Bradford (daughter). The couple is largely private and is rarely spotted together.
Steven is currently worth about $8 million. He has made most of his wealth from his various acting roles both in television shows and the movies. The longevity of his career is definitely a major boost to his finances.

Frequent Nose Breaks
Steven Culp has broken his nose several times, even while on set. While filming an episode of the “J.A.G.“, the script called for Admiral Chegwidden (played by John Jackson) to deal a make-believe punch on Steven, knocking him to the ground; but Jackson took it a bit far by landing Culp a real punch that broke his nose for real.
He also suffered a nose break while on the set of The Sisters, it was so bad that he had to undergo surgery to fix his nose. Sometime in 1991, a robber accosted Steven and Barbara in Los Angeles, and his nose was once again the target.
He financially supports the weSPARK Cancer Support Center, as well as the Bryan and Kathryn Harvey Family Memorial Endowment Fund.
Steven, when not on set, loves playing his guitar, he also loves spending time with his wife and children, as well as writing fiction and riding his bicycle to keep fit.
