Sophie Charlene Akland Monk who is often referred to as Sophie Monk is one of the most hardworking women in the entertainment industry who has been able to put the wealth of her talents to achieve the success that she enjoys today.
She is an actress, model, radio and television presenter, singer as well as a songwriter. She first gained fame after she was chosen as one of the girls who made up the girl group, Bardot. Though the group was very successful she decided to leave in order to launch a solo career. Her debut album titled, ‘Calendar Girl’ was then released in 2003.

Sophie Monk was born in London on the 14th of December 1979. She is of mixed heritage being that her mother is Australian while her father is British. In 1982 when she was 2 years old, her parents relocated to Queensland in Australia. As a kid, she got trained in classical opera.
For her education, Sophie was enrolled in the MacGregor State High School where she came to be a very sociable student and quite bright which resulted in her becoming the school’s captain. She graduated from high school in the year 1997 after which she enrolled in and later graduated from Somerset College. Monk then began working at Warner Bros. Movie World located on the Gold Coast as a Marilyn impersonator.
In the year 1999, she saw the start of her music career after her mother encouraged her to go ahead and audition for a chance to earn a spot on a new reality show called Popstars. The series was put together to find a new hip hop and commercial girl group. In one of the auditions, Sophie Monk described it as easy because she sang one of Marilyn Monroe‘s songs ‘Happy Birthday, Mr. President’, which she mastered as an impersonator. She was successfully auditioned and thus selected to be one of the girls who would form the girl group, Bardot.
The group’s debut single ‘Poison’, as well as their album (Bardot), opened at the No.1 spot, automatically making them the very first Australian group to achieve such feat. In 2000, the group were nominated in three categories of the ARIA Awards and were billed to perform the same night. Their second album, ‘Play It Like That’ was released in 2001 and it debuted at the number 16 spot reaching gold status. Moreso, one of the singles from the album ‘ASAP‘ peaked at number 5. The second single off the album ‘I Need Somebody’ surpassed the records held by their previous song Poison. In 2002, Sophie Monk and her group went on their second tour before the group was dissolved in May of the same year.

In 2017 Monk began dating Stu Laundy, the winner of the Bachelorette Australia. Unfortunately, just like her previous relationships, this also ended in January 2018. Interestingly, she ended it via Instagram.
