Notable for his laid back aura and his love for marijuana, Snoop Dogg is definitely rap royalty. Born Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr. to humble beginnings of gang activities, numerous arrests and putting out mixtapes, Snoop has come a long way. Since 1992 when Dr Dre discovered him, the artist has learned the ropes as well as carved a niche for himself in the international music industry. Through all these, Snoop did not neglect to start a family; and who could be better to start it with than his high school sweetheart, Shante Taylor? Let’s see how that worked out for them.
A Detailed Look At Snoop Dogg’s Marital Relationship With Shante Taylor
Snoop Dog (b. 1971) and his wife, Shante Taylor Broadus (b. 1971) met way back in high school. This means they must have started dating around the late 1980s when Snoop has had nothing of the fame and wealth he enjoys today.
After several years of dating, the lovers decided to make their relationship officially permanent through marriage. They, therefore, tied the knot on the 14th of June, 1997. The wedding ceremony came off at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Marina Del Rey, California.
Snoop and Shante’s Attempted Divorce and How They Got Back Together
Despite standing the test of time, Snoop Dogg and Shante’s union has not been without its ups and downs. Their relationship hitches got so bad to the point that Snoop Dogg filed for a divorce in 2004, citing irreconcilable differences.
Carried away by the swing of his music career, Snoop once thought it wise to end his marriage with Shante. But fortunately for the couple, he changed his mind after some deep reflections of the worth of his family – his wife and kids. The rapper came to realize that his wife means so much more to him upon coming to the full knowledge that they were just meant for each other. He, therefore, came pleading for a second chance.
Reflecting on the incident in an interview with MTV, Snoop Dogg said he’ll never give divorcing Shante a try ever again in his lifetime. The rapper has instead, worked hard since then to make up for his mistakes. As part of making amends, Snoop organized a wedding vow renewal ceremony without Shante’s knowledge. The very colorful and romantic occasion came off on 12th January 2008. The event which took place on Charlie Wilson’s ranch in Los Angeles saw 200 invited guests in attendance.
Since then, the couple has been going from strength to strength in their love life. In 2016, on the 19th anniversary of their wedlock, Snoop blew the minds of fans across the world when he posted a lovely throwback picture of Shante and himself on their high school prom.
Who Are Snoop Dogg’s Children?
Snoop Dogg and his wife, Shante Broadus have three children together – two sons and a daughter – namely: Cordé, Cordell and Cori Broadus.
Cordé Calvin Broadus whom Snoop Dogg nicknamed ‘Spank’ is his eldest child and son. He was born on August 21, 1994, about three years before his parents wedded. Corde is pursuing a career in showbiz, including modeling and acting. The upcoming star appears to be taking after a great part of his father’s lifestyle. He wears long locks like him and more remarkably, also smokes marijuana. Cordé not long ago caused his father to receive severe lashes from social media users after he posted a photo of himself and his dad smoking weed together.
In January 2015, he made his parents’ first-time grandparents after he welcomed a baby boy with his girlfriend, Jessica Kyzer. Cordé is, however, now with another lady named Soraya Love and together they have a daughter named Eleven. The couple’s second child, a son named Kai died on September 25, 2019, just ten days after he was born.
Snoop Dogg’s second child and son, Cordell Broadus was born on February 21, 1997. Cordell was a phenomenal football player in high school, and that was made more evident when UCLA offered him a football scholarship in 2015. To cut a long story short, he turned it down in a bid to pursue a career in filming, both as an actor and a director. He also delved into the fashion business as an entrepreneur. He welcomed his first child with his girlfriend, Phia Barragan in 2019.
The baby of the house, fondly referred to as ‘Choc’ by her dad, was born in 1999. Also drawing inspiration from her father, Cori started her music career as early as 2011 with her debut single titled “Do My Thang”. The same year, however, tragedy struck in Cori’s life and family. She was diagnosed with Lupus, a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body. Cori is, however, a determined fighter and her parents have confirmed that she is winning the battle against the disease which at some point claimed all her hair.
She has now graduated from Ramón C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts. She has released more singles such as Daddy’s Girl, SMH, and so on. She also featured on her father’s 2015 album “No Guns Allowed”.
Meet Snoop Dogg’s Secret Son, Julian Corrie Broadus
Until 2007, the world believed that Snoop Dogg had only three children. But then, news broke that year that he fathered another child, a son named Julian Corrie with his former high school lover, Laurie Holmond. Julian was born in 1998, barely one year after tying the knot with Shante.
Although the child was kept a secret for so long, Snoop Dogg knew all about him from day one. He was actually with Laurie the day she gave birth to the boy and from thence, took the responsibility for his upkeep after ascertaining he was truly the boy’s father through a paternity test. Julian himself was, however, unaware of whom his father was until after his mom spilled the beans.
To prove the power of blood, Julian has exceptional musical talents. He, however, initially refused to follow that path because he never wanted to be like Snoop Dogg, his dad. But after much self struggles, he realized he had no better passion and so came back to his love – music. Julia is a graduate of the University of California.
