The names of his siblings are Casey, Logan, and a sister Carlie. Interestingly all his siblings are YouTube personalities like him. For instance, his brother Casey has over 500,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel while Logan has about 400,000. Carl’s nationality is American and his ethnicity is North American.
Born into a Christian home, Carl served a two-year mission term for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) before attending Idaho State University. He, however, dropped out to pursue a business of his own. As one with a burning desire to pursue a career as a social media personality, Carl worked towards it but first, he had to take up some menial jobs like bus driving, to make a living and as he became financially stable, he bought himself a Dell laptop and found himself in the world of YouTube videos, thanks to his friends who encouraged him to do so following his comedy skills.
Carl’s first channel, “shaycarl”, was created in December 2006. Making his first appearance on the YouTube channel, the comedian uploaded funny videos mostly about himself and members of his family. Occasionally, Carl involves his audience in a one-on-one conversation, he would also include an actual event going on in his life. Most of his conversations with his audience focused on weight loss and other important issues. Within six months of his Vlogging, Carl began to receive a payment of about $2,000 a month with over 1.6 million viewers.
On October 1, 2008, he created another channel named “SHAYTARDS”. The name of the new YouTube channel was coined by Carl during a video stream in which his fans referred to themselves as “Shaytarded”. Carl’s popularity grew further after a YouTube personality Philip DeFranco watched one of his videos and gave him a shout-out. Posting a video each day, Carl’s second channel grew faster and higher than his first, reaching a total subscriber of over 4.9 million people. One of the key reasons why Carl garnered such a huge viewership in such a short time was because he was fond of sharing his family’s experiences and intimacy to his audience although this also generated some controversies as some of his viewers opposed his use of his family for commercial and financial gains, saying his actions must be legally and ethically looked into.
In November 2009, Carl established his third YouTube channel called ShayLoss which focused mainly on weight-loss, exercises, and diet. The channel also featured a bit of his inspirational and encouraging words from carl on topics like healthy lifestyles. His focus on weight loss could be inspired by his 280+ pounds weight gain after he got married. After rigorous exercises, he was able to return to 180 pounds and takes his viewers all through his weight-loss challenge. Carl is even currently doing the 5 Week Challenge with his brother, Logan, on his ShayLoss channel.
