Scott Patterson is an American film, television and theatre actor, and musician. He has been around on the silver screen for over two decades and has a good number of works and acclamations to show for it. His most acclaimed work is his role as a diner owner, Luke Danes through seven seasons of the TV show, Gilmore Girls. He is also known as Agent Peter Strahm in Saw IV, Saw V and Saw VI.

Versatile in his wonderful portrayals, he has made appearances in many other works both in the television and in films. She was married to Francis Ford Patterson IV, an advertising executive. The duo is parents to the widely acclaimed entertainer, Scott Gordon Patterson. He was born to them on September 11, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the United States. He has three sisters – Judy Patterson, Barbara Patterson, and Abigail Wiest.

Scott’s mother acted in the Haddonfield Plays and Players Theatre Troupe. She must have formed part of the inspiration that informed his son’s career choice. He was raised in Haddonfield, New Jersey. However, his parents divorced in 1974 when he was still in his teens.

Education and Baseball Career

Scott attended Haddonfield Memorial High School and Rutgers University, where he pursued a career in Comparative Literature. He would later enroll for a study in acting in New York with renowned coaches Robert Lewis and Sondra Lee.

During the course of his studies, he was exposed to the teachings of luminaries such as Paul Newman, Arthur Penn, and Frank Corsaro at The Actors Studio. No wonder he is excelling as an actor. He was part of the studio’s Producer’s Units which was headed by Arthur Penn, and in addition to this, he appeared in numerous productions, including Rasputin and Miss Julie.

He played professional baseball before he started out into the acting field. He was a professional pitcher in minor league baseball from 1980 to 1986. During the course of his career on the pitch, he topped out at the Triple-A level which was the highest before the major leagues.

Among the victories he recorded in baseball, he won 13 consecutive games as a starting pitcher in 1981 setting a Braves record for most consecutive wins to start a season and was named the Braves Minor League Pitcher of the month twice. In addition, Scott Patterson was named an All-Stars in 1986, the minor league Pitcher of the Month once and of the Week three times while he played in the Yankees.

Showbiz Career

He had his course charted very early in life forming his first band way back in third grade with his longtime friend Tommy Poitras. The band named The Unknowns played only two songs one of which is The Beatles’ Back in the USSR and the second was I’m Not Your Stepping Stone.

The band, however, added to their set list and endured through grade school and high school but disbanded after high school graduation.

Scott formed a theatre company in 1988, the Arclight Theatre Company in Soho, New York City with John Bishop. The Company’s debut production was Bishop’s The Great, Great Grandson of Jedediah Kohler where he played Jedediah Kohler. The theater company further produced the works of John Bishop, Sam Shepherd, Harold Pinter and Shakespeare.

He got his first role in films in 1993 in Castle Rock’s Little Big League. His first lead role was in the feature film Her Best Move. Other films he starred in the early stages of his acting career include Highway 395Rhapsody in Bloom, Other People’s Children, A Boy Called Hate, Three Wishes. 

He has also appeared on television mostly playing romantic roles. Some of those shows include Gilmore Girls, Seinfeld, Will & Grace, It’s Like, You Know, Fired Up guest starring in Arliss and Get Real.

In addition, he voiced the character of Lieutenant Farraday in the 2004 animated series from Warner Bros. Animation Justice League Unlimited.

His more recent works both in films and television include Aliens in America, 90210, the NBC drama series The Event as Michael Buchanan and in the 2016 revival miniseries Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life among other works.

The Gilmore Girls actor was married to Vera Davich, his high school sweetheart in 1983. Their marriage was shortlived as it ended two years after in a divorce in 1985. Scott however, stated immaturity as the cause of their separation.

He was not known to be involved in any other relationship after his first for more than a decade until he was on set of Gilmore Girls where he met Kristine Saryan. The duo met in 2001 and was alleged to have a live-in relationship since August 2001. Kristine made an appearance on the series in 2002.

Although it is not confirmed whether the two are married amidst the rumors of their secret wedding, they are already parents to a son, Nicholas “Nick” born in July 2014. The happy father, Scott took to Twitter to announce the birth of his 8 pounds 2 oz son and often shares pictures of him and his growing tot.

Scott Patterson turned down an offer by George Wolfe to be cast in the European Traveling Company’s Tamara to work in his theatre, Arclight.

The Event actor is rather on the tall side at 6′ which is 1.83 m.

He plays the guitar, writes music and paints in his spare time as well as collects art, artifacts and rare writings.

He dropped out of the Rutgers University to play baseball for community colleges in Florida and Arizona.

Scott never thought he would get the role of Luke Danes because he was not a named actor.

His character in Gilmore Girls was originally supposed to appear only in the pilot, his blunt tongue and probably good looks earned him many fans and ultimately had him staying around for seven seasons.
