Soccer has always been the life of Manchester United’s (Man U) Scott McTominay who has been with the club since his childhood days. It won’t be wrong to say that, home to Scott is United, having played for the club before he even played for his country’s national team. The central midfielder started out with Man U during his youth career days and has remained with the club since then.  McTominay’s story may seem like a nursery rhyme but there are some lesser known facts about the footballer. Here is everything you need to know about the Scottish player.

Scott McTominay Bio, Age

He was born on December 8, 1996, in Lancaster, England. He is of Scottish ancestry. Through his father’s influence, Scott would attend football training camps as a young boy, which was how his interest in the game developed. At the tender age of five, he joined the Manchester United academy. This was after he attended the club’s development center in Preston. Scott McTominay soon kicked off his youth career starting out as a center forward.

In July 2013, he kicked off his professional career and became a central midfielder. Although he so much loved the game, things were not quite easy for McTominay in the early days of his youth career since he was still growing at the time. He was mostly absent during the 2014-2015 season as a result of constraints and injuries relating to his growth, as well as his size at the time. Although he struggled within the Under 19s and Under 21s he made it to the senior team, all thanks to his doggedness in the 21 games he played.

Scott’s first stint after his senior call-up was in April 2017 when he sat in the substitutes’ bench for a Premier League clash against Swansea City. In May that same year, he debuted in the Premier League as a substitute against Arsenal. He then played in United’s final match against Crystal Palace on May 21. Following the end of the season, he joined United’s touring party for the 2017-18 pre-season tour ahead of the new season.

McTominay played in the friendly match against Norwegian club Valerenga on 30th July 2017. It was in this match where he substituted Paul Pogba after the one hour mark and scored his first senior goal for the team. He also played in the match against Italian club Sampdoria.

In 2018, after he was recommended by Man U coach Jose Mourinho, Scott was selected to play for the Scottish national team. He then made his international debut for Scotland on the 23rd of March against Costa Rica. Scot played for 58 minutes in the match which they lost by 1-0.

His Body Measurements – Height and Weight

Scott McTominay had a lot of growth issues in the early days of his youth career. Scott still battling with puberty at the time, was quite small and found it hard meeting up with the daunting requirements of the game especially on the pitch. During his under 18s which fell between 2013 and 2015, McTominay made seven appearances. He sustained a lot of injury during the 2014-15 season. His injuries had a lot to do with his small and tender body and it caused him to miss a majority of the games throughout the season.

But Scott McTominay held on to his dreams despite the challenges. He persevered until he was strong enough to last on the pitch. Scott has proven that size cannot be a determinant factor for the release of any player by any club. McTominay who was once in the small-size category saw a growth spurt take him from a 5ft 6in to a 6ft 4in ( 1.9m meters ) within a very short span of eighteen months.

He is not only tall but has a proportional weight of 88 kg. Scott himself acknowledges this rapid change and feels good about it. The player in an interview with the club’s official website confessed he was worried about his height and size which were becoming a big challenge to his career. He thanked the management for their patience with him.
