Sadio Mane’s Bio (Age)

Sadio Mané was born on April 10, 1992, in Bambali, a small village in Sédhiou, Sénégal. As a child, his father forbade him from playing football. However, his sheer talent could not remain gagged for too long. At the age of 15, he began his journey into professional football when he enrolled at the Académie Génération Foot, a football academy in Senegal’s capital city Dakar. He relocated to France in 2011 after landing a deal with French Association club side FC Metz.

Mane made his professional debut on January 14, 2012, for FC Metz coming off the bench in the team’s Ligue 2 fixture against SC Bastia. At the end of the season, Mané moved to Austrian club side FC Salzburg for a transfer fee which is recorded as the 3rd highest ever paid to FC Metz. The talented Senegalese winger proved that he was worth every penny spent in obtaining his signature.

Less than 2months after joining the club, Mane netted his first hat-trick for FC Salzburg in a 3-1 away victory over SC Kalsdorf in the Austrian Cup. He continued in top form for the club throughout the season. Thanks to Sadio Mane’s invaluable contributions, FC Salzburg ended the 2012-13 season with 2 domestic titles. However, the striker was no longer at home with the club and so he employed several drastic measures to arm-twist them into letting him go.

In the summer of 2014, he joined Premier League side Southampton on a 4-year deal. Mane netted his first Premier League goal in Southampton’s 8-0 thrashing of Sunderland on October 18, 2014. The Senegalese goal poacher proved very instrumental in the side’s Premier League campaign for the 2014-15 season. On May 16, 2015, in Southampton’s 6–1 triumph against Aston Villa, Mane netted 3 goals in 2 minutes 56 seconds setting a new record for the fastest hattrick in the Premier League. He continued his goalscoring spree at Southampton into the 2015-16 season which he ended as team’s highest scorer, having netted a total of 15 goals.

Sadio Mane equally caught the attention of several top club sides in the Premier League including Liverpool FC who had been victims of his impeccable goalscoring ability. In the summer of 2016, Sadio Mane agreed to a 5-year deal with Liverpool FC for a transfer fee of £34 million which was, at that time, the highest ever recorded for an African player. On his Premier League debut with Liverpool, Mane scored the last goal in his team’s 4-3 away victory over Arsenal FC on August 14. On December 19, the talented striker netted a crucial goal which granted his team an away victory in a Merseyside derby against Everton. At the end of the season, Sadio Mane was named as Liverpool Player of the Season having scored 13 goals in his debut season. He was also named on the PFA Team of the Year.

For the 2017-18 season, Mane was an intricate part of Liverpool’s formidable attacking trio tagged the “Fab Three” alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. On April 14, 2018, Mane surpassed Demba Ba’s 43-goal record to become the top scoring Senegalese in the history of the EPL. On May 26, Mane also made history as the first Senegalese to score at a champions league final as he scored during his team’s only goal in their 1-3 loss against Real Madrid at the 2018 UEFA Champions League Final.

On the international front, Sadio Mane played for the Senegalese national team at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He also represented Senegal at the 2015 and 2017 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations. Owing to his impeccable performance for Liverpool in the 2017/2018 league season, it came as no surprise that Sadio Mane was named in Senegal’s squad for the 2018 World Cup tournament.
