The actor was cast alongside the likes of Michael Pitt, Sandra Pitt, and Ben Chaplin. Its was directed by Barber Schroeder who also served as the producer of the film. Many critics gave a negative review of the movie as it failed to maintain the element of suspense in spite of the fact that it’s a thriller. It was deemed too predictable for the genre and the cast members were also not efficient in portraying their roles. The movie is also notable for its failure to enter the Cannes Film Festival competitions, irrespective of the fact that it was screened there. It finally only grossed $56.7 million and its budget was $50 million.

This 2003 film which was directed by Matthew Ryan Hoge featured Ryan Gosling as the son of a wealthy man who was in prison for murder. His character, Leland, became a subject of interest for the prison writer, Pearl Madison played by Don Cheadle. The writer’s conversations with the young prisoner unveiled numerous side effects of the murder that was committed. He even found out that Ryan’s character was in a romantic relationship with the murder victim and his father was a renowned novelist. The movie was first shown during the Sundance Film Festival in 2003, however, it received negative reviews from film critics who saw it as a ‘moral muddle’.
