Today, Ruth Wilson is one of the foremost names in British television and cinema which was not always the case. However, for a while, she was just the daughter of middle-class parents, Nigel Wilson and Mary Wilson, both of whom worked as an investment banker and a probation officer respectively. Ruth was raised along with three older brothers, making her the only daughter of her parents. One of her brothers, Sam is a BBC Journalist. All four of them were raised in Shepperton, Surrey.
It was in Surrey that she began to tend towards the entertainment industry. After graduating from Notre Dame School and Esher College, she worked briefly as a model before she went on to the University of Nottingham where she studied History. While Wilson was at Nottingham, her affinity for the entertainment industry manifested through acting and she joined the student drama group at Nottingham New Theatre.
Having fallen in love with acting and developed the desire to pursue it as a career, Ruth Wilson proceeded to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art after graduating from Nottingham. Although it wasn’t as an actress, she made her first television appearance on the game show, Time Commanders.
