He attended the Scottish School of Forestry in Inverness. That was the only formal education he received. Later on, he was trained in acting by Robert Parsifal at a program called The Actor’s Workshop in Glasgow in 1988. Before he became an actor, he worked as a carpenter, bridge painter, and gardener.
