Scottish actor Richard Madden is best known for his Game of Thrones role as Robb Stark, a character whose life ended in a way that should go down as one of the most horrific deaths in TV history, but that’s by the way… Richard has gone on to achieve greater things after his Game of Thrones tenure ended. We even hear that he is being considered for the highly sought after James Bond role in the near future. These days, he is best known for his lead role as Sergeant David Budd in the BBC thriller Bodyguard. The series became a surprise hit for BBC breaking a decade-old record to become the highest viewing new BBC drama in the multichannel era.
Richard Madden’s Bio
Richard Madden was born to parents Richard and Patricia Madden (née Mulholland) on the 18th day of June 1986 in Elderslie, Renfrewshire in Scotland. He was raised in his birthplace alongside two sisters; Clara who was born in 1983 and Lauren who was born in 1988. His mother worked as a classroom assistant while his father is a fire brigadier.
Young Richard was far from the hunk that he now is. He revealed that as a kid he was incredibly shy and fat with a waistline that measured up to 38 inches. Madden said kids in his school often made fun of him and he was unable to fit in a denim. Madden decided to quit his pity party and at the age of 11 enrolled at Paisley Arts Centre’s youth theatre programme. He decided to do something about his weight when he was given a role in a school play where he had to act naked.
Richard Madden then attended Glasgow’s Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) from where he graduated in 2007. Madden’s early roles included the main role of Sebastian Simpkins in the TV series Barmy Aunt Boomerang where he acted from 1999 to 2000.
He made his film debut playing young Andy in Complicity (2000). Following a couple more roles in TV, Madden earned the role of Robb Stark in HBO’s fantasy drama, Game of Thrones which ultimately became his breakout role. He left the show after his character was killed off in the third season.
While acting in GOT, Madden played Prince Kit in the 2015 Disney film, Cinderella. Post-GOT, Madden acted in a handful of TV films before landing what would become his next big role in Bodyguard.
Wife, Girlfriend, Who is He Dating? Is He Gay?
Richard Madden has never been married (at least at the time of this writing) and is not a gay man. All of his relationships, past, and present have been with the opposite sex. He is currently in a relationship with English actress and model, Ellie Bamber. The pair began dating in the summer of 2017 and the news got out when they were spotted making out on a beach in Ibiza.
Their status as a pair became crystal clear to the media when they attended hand-in-hand Chanel’s Serpentine Summer Party in June 2018. The couple has been very tight-lipped about their relationship but in October 2018 in an interview with The Sun, Madden boldly revealed that he was “sleeping with” and “very happy with someone.”
Ellie Bamber who has been acting since as a kid is quite famous as well. She was born on the 2nd of February 1997 in Surrey, England. She is 11 years younger than Madden. Bamber had an interest in acting from her school days in Hawley Place School and Wellington College. Despite her love for acting, she remained exceptional at academics but would decline two drama scholarships to pursue her dreams of becoming a professional actress.
She started out in theater and had roles in Sir Trevor Nunn’s production of Aspects of Love at the Menier Chocolate Factory, and High Society at The Old Vic, London. She dabbled in TV in 2012 and would come to appear in shows like A Mother’s Son, and The Musketeers. Bamber made her feature film debut in the 2014 film, The Falling and earned her break with her role as India Hastings in 2016’s Nocturnal Animals.
Though Bamber’s relationship with Madden seems to be her first to hit the limelight, Madden has had a couple of high-profile relationships in the past. He dated Doctor Who’s Jenna Coleman from 2012 to 2015 before being linked with TV presenter Laura Whitmore and then model, Suki Waterhouse.
