Following his father’s footsteps, he joined the Boyscout of the American’s National Executive Board and became an Eagle Scout as a teenager. By 2010, he attained the highest non-executive position by becoming its national president. As a hardworking, devoted and committed citizen, he has been rewarded with a couple of awards from different organizations. Let us look into the life of this administrator.

Rex Tillerson Bio, Age

He was named Rex Wayne Tillerson, after two popular actors who often took the roles of cowboys – Rex Allen and John Wayne. The business guru was born in Wichita Falls in the city of Texas even though, he was raised in Oklahoma and Vernon, Texas. Tillerson was raised alongside two sisters; Rae Ann Hamilton, a doctor and Jo Lynn Peters, a high school instructor.

His father, Bobby was a member of the Boy Scout for a long time and was made an executive. Rex took after his father and joined the Boys Scout. He rose to the position of Eagle Scout and later its national president for two years (2010-2012). He attended the Huntsville High School and while in school, he took odd jobs like a being busboy, a janitor, and a cotton farm worker. He later went to the University of Texas, at Austin where he graduated with a degree in civil engineering. Soon after, he began working with Exxon Company as a production manager until he was elevated to the post of business development manager at the natural gas division of the Corporation.

Through his zeal and determination, he rose to the seat of the company’s oil and gas general manager, who oversaw Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas divisions of the Corporation. Rex built most of his career at Exxon and as the years went by held several positions such as President of its Yemen branch and other administrative positions in countries like Russia and Thailand that spanned between 1995-1999.

Rex Tillerson saw to it that he didn’t let his predecessor or the company down as he took the company forward to become one of the world’s most profitable organizations.

With his wide knowledge of natural oil and gas, his success as the companies C.E.O came as no surprise. As C.E.O, he helped broker several profitable deals for the company and also aided the company overcome major challenges that faced the oil and gas sector in the 21st century. Little wonder why he was awarded the WPC Dewhurst awards and the Pitts Energy Leadership awards, for his immense contribution to the oil and gas industry.

In 2016, Rex retired as Exxon Mobil’s C.E.O and had a change in career when he was appointed as the 69th Secretary of State of the United States of America. This came as a surprise to many as he had no political or military experience, however, was a member of the Republican party. He resumed office in February 2017 and his tenure was very controversial and short-lived. While serving as the Secretary of State he began reorganizing the Department of State which followed a lot of resignation and dismissals.

This didn’t go well with diplomats as they argued that the occurrences placed the Department in an ineffective state. With more controversies emerging, especially from Rex’s relations with Russia and variation of views between himself and the president Donald Trump, he was removed from office a year after his appointment specifically on March 31, 2018, and was replaced by Mike Pompeo, a CIA Director.
