However, Trump went ahead and announced that Reince would be his chief of staff. He then took office on the 20th of January 2017 and his position involved him taking control over who could and could not enter the oval office.
While working as chief of staff, Reince was accused of violating the White House policy of politically interfering in pending investigations when he requested that the FBI stop the allegations that President Trump associates had contacted Russian intelligence. Anthony Scaramucci, the White House communication director had also accused Reince of being responsible for the leaks from the White House. He did this in a series of tweets which he later deleted.
It is speculated that all these accusations led to Reince’s resignation as the chief of staff as he stated he had resigned on the 27th of July 2017. President Trump then announced John Kelly as Reince’s replacement on Twitter. Although Reince resigned on the 27th of July, he was in the White House till the 25th of August working as the special advisor to the President and helping John Kelly settle into the White House with his new role. Reince’s tenure as the chief of staff earned him the shortest tenure in history as the permanent chief of staff.
