One of the veterans of New York’s anti-folk scene, the famed singer cum songwriter Regina Spektor, is renowned for making original, heterogeneous but always personal music. Being born and bred in Moscow until she was nine exposed her to her dad’s bootleg tapes of Western pop and rock, she also learned to play the piano at an early stage in her life.

When her family eventually emigrated to America, the budding singer had the opportunity to immerse herself in the American culture and eventually, she was able to strike a balance between her Russian-Jewish roots and her new American culture which gave her music the uniqueness and distinctiveness it enjoys among fans today. Notable among her songs are Fidelity, Orange Is the New Black, You’ve Got Time”, What We Saw from the Cheap Seats and Remember Us to Life which was the title of her seventh album.

The Famous entertainer Regina Spektor whose birth name is Regina Ilyinichna Spektor was born in Moscow on the 18th day of February 1980. Her mum Bella Spektor was a professor of music at the Soviet college of music who reverted to teaching music in a public primary school in New York upon their immigration to the United States, and her dad Ilya Spektor works as a photographer and an amateur violinist. The singer grew up alongside her brother Boruch – The Bear whom she featured in her song titled Whisper.

During her formative years, Regina Spektor mastered the intricacies of the piano by constantly practicing on a Petrof upright which was a gift from her grandfather to her mum. The rising star grew up listening to popular Russian Bards like Bulat Okudzhava and Vladimir Vysotsky. Her dad whose hobby was trading cassettes with friends in the USSR and getting recordings from Eastern Europe gave her enough exposure to rock and roll bands like the Moody Blues, Queen, and the Beatles.

She finished her high school education from Fair Lawn public school in New Jersey after spending a couple of years at Frisch School which was also located in New Jersey. Until she got to the age of 17, the emerging star studied classical piano under the tutelage of Sonia Vargas who worked at the Manhattan School of Music as a music professor. Regina’s performance in anti-folk scene gained her a lot of recognition in downtown New York City, and she started to self-produce and sell her CDs before she was recognized by known record labels like Spire and Shoplifter Records who took over the production of her subsequent albums.

Fellow singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist Jack Dishel is Regina’s husband. In addition to his music career, Jack also functions as an actor, comic, producer, writer, and director. The DRYVRS comedy web-series is his brainchild and he was the songwriter and singer of the hit titled Only Son and also came in as the lead guitarist of the group Moldy Peaches. Just like Regina’s family, Jack’s family members were also refugee immigrants from Russia to the USA.

Talking about their connubial life, the couple tied the knot on the 18th day of December 2011 after a six-year affair and an engagement that lasted for all of 16 months. Barely two years after their wedding, Regina broke the news of her pregnancy through her  Facebook handle on the 23rd day of January 2014 and two months later, in March 2014, the celebrity couple welcomed their son.

Jack has performed a duet with Regina Spektor in the past when they joined voices in the song Call Them Brothers. The couple seems to be living in marital bliss since no rumors or controversy have been heard about them.
