After almost a decade as husband and wife, Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum dropped a divorce bombshell on their millions of fans on Instagram in April 2018. The duo used to be one of the most loved celebrity couples but that wasn’t enough to keep them going. In their statement, in true celebrity style, they gave a slight insight into the reason behind their split, asking for understanding from their myriad of fans. The predominant message in the statement released was that they fell out of love but will remain good friends, at least for the sake of the daughter they share together.
They first began dating while filming the 2006 film, Step Up. The romance between their characters in the dance-centric film was very convincing and it didn’t come as a surprise when they took it to the real world. The movie didn’t just see the start of an admirable romantic journey, it also made them famous.
They became one of the beloved couples in Hollywood and in 2009, after dating for three years, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan became husband and wife, following their wedding held at a private home in Malibu, CA. It was a fairytale event; literally, the venue had fairytale-inspired decorations. After their wedding, they continued to enjoy blissful moments together which was perfected with the birth of their daughter, Everly Tatum, in 2013.
Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum were very much in love with each other, the actress even gave up her last name to take his. This continued for a few more years before they announced that the journey has ended for their relationship. Initial rumblings of an imminent split were heard when Jenna rode solo to a Vanity Fair party with her girlfriends – no Channing in sight. She was also spotted at parties with the stylist, Brad Goreski instead of Tatum. Her excuse at the time was that it was Channing’s turn to watch their daughter at home. Turns out there was more to it.
Following their divorce, friends of the couple, especially Channing’s showed their support with some pointing out that the divorce was for the greater good. Their opinions suggested that their priorities no longer complemented one another and that Channing was always complaining about her.
The Real Reason Jenna Dewan And Channing Tatum Split
- Their Relationship Became Strained
The first report that emerged about Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum confirmed that they were separated for months before making their decision public. Moreover, Tatum moved out of their home months before the announcement was made. From the tidbits of information available, the couple had their ups and downs like any regular pair and they tried hard to patch things up to make their marriage work but none of their efforts worked. Besides, they didn’t want to remain in a relationship that was unhealthy for the people involved.
- They Grew Apart
It’s actually really sad that two people who were once head over heels in love with each other can’t stand being together anymore as romantic partners. The time they spent apart didn’t do much to help mend fences between them but the great part is that they mutually agreed that it’s time to move on and find happiness elsewhere.
- Work Took A Toll On Their Relationship
We understand the need for a man to work hard to provide for his family and so does Channing Tatum, but in an intense manner. He puts in a lot of time on film projects and other endeavors, enough to be tagged a workaholic. Soon, his efforts started paying off but he didn’t slow down. He is now widely known around the world as one of the best in his craft but it cost him his marriage to Jenna. Being away from his wife and daughter for long periods of time created a vacuum in his relationship with his family. Jenna confessed that the actor often put his career ahead of his family which contributed to the end of their marriage.
Interestingly, though the passion they felt when they first met died off, they maintained a healthy friendship and still love and respect each other. Jenna has since switched back to her old surname which she had dropped for her husband’s name.
