Vicente Fernández’s father, Ramón Fernández, was born on the 13th of March 1915 in Tepatitlán de Morelos, Jalisco, Mexico. His full name at birth was Jose Ramón Fernández Barba.

His father’s name was Vicente Fernández Parra (1877 – 1968), and his mother’s name was María Refugio Barba Barba (1884 -1965). He reportedly had nine siblings, most of whom were sisters.

Ramón Fernández spent much of his life in Jalisco and completed some form of education as a child. He later went into ranching and made his living as a rancher. This entailed rearing animals, such as cows on his ranch as well as growing crops. He did his best, but things were still tough.

Ramón Fernández got married to María Paula Gómez Ponce (1917–1963) on the 10th day of November 1934 in Zapopan, Jalisco. He was 19 years old at the time, while she was 17 years old. They made their home on the ranch and welcomed a total of three children.
One of them is, of course, Vicente, who would go on to become a very famous musician. He was born in 1940 and died in December 2021 at the age of 81.

Asides from Vicente, Ramón Fernández also has two daughters, namely María Del Refugio Fernández Gómez (born 1936) and Ana María Teresa Fernández Gómez (born 1943). Some reports have it that they are still alive and living in Mexico, but more credible sources have it that they are also late. They will, of course, have gotten married and started their own families.

Ramón Fernández worked quite hard on his ranch to provide for his family, but things were quite difficult. They found it hard to make a living, and this necessitated them to relocate from Jalisco to Tijuana in search of better opportunities in the 50s. It was in Tijuana that his young son started singing ad then slowly made a name for himself.
