Quavo, also known as Huncho, is the most prominent of the hip-hop/trap music group known as Migos, which comprises of three male members; Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff, who are all related. Their collective name Migos is believed to have its origin from the Spanish word Amigos which means friends.
Migos is also a colloquial term used by the African American community in Atlanta to refer to a house where drugs (mostly cocaine) are produced and sold. Quavo and his crew are famous for popularizing the African-American cultural dance move called ‘dab’ and their ‘triplet flow’ rap style has carved a niche for them in the rap game, earning them a combined net worth of about 10 million USD.
Quavo whose real name is Quavious Keyate Marshall was born on the 2nd of April 1991 in the city of Athens, Georgia; a state in the southeastern part of the United States of America. Although Quavo is originally from the Gwinnett County in Georgia, he has come to be affiliated with Atlanta which is the capital city of the State of Georgia.
Quavo attended Berkmar High School in Lilburn, Georgia. While he was at Berkmar High, he showed interest in sports-football precisely and although he was quite good at it and could have possibly earned himself a college scholarship as a result of his exceptional football skills, he surprisingly dropped out from Berkmar High in 2009.
After dropping out of Berkmar High, Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff started a Polo Club named after the Polo t-shirt clothing line but eventually decided to rebrand and go by the name of Migos because they felt that the Polo t-shirt brand was no longer in fashion. Apparently, Quavo’s decision to drop out of high school and delve into rap music turned out to be the best decision he ever made because it has brought him an overwhelming amount of fame and fortune.
The Migos were underground for about 2 years and on the 25th of August 2011, they released their first mixtape titled Jugg Season. The mixtape was not a huge success so they decided to try again with another mixtape titled No Label in 2012. However, Migos eventually gained recognition in 2013 with the hit single Versace off their third mixtape titled Young Rich N*ggas. Their recognition grew to prominence when Drake, who admitted to being a huge fan of their rap style, released a remix of Versace.
The Migos brilliantly rode the wave of their newly found prominence and released hit songs like Hannah Montana and went on to drop an EP titled 3 Way in 2016 and 2 albums. The albums were titled; Young Rich Nation in 2015 and most recently, the critically acclaimed CULTURE in 2017 with hit singles like Bad and Boujee, T-Shirt, and Slippery. The Migos are virtually done with their third album titled CULTURE 2 officially released in January 2018. They are also affiliated with Motown and Capitol record labels and have released most of their projects through these record labels.
Quavo As An Artist
Although Quavo is very loyal to his crew and has blatantly refused to release his personal singles or an independent or solo album as such, he has been featured by notable rappers such as; Travis Scott, 2 Chainz, Drake, Meek Mill, Young Thug, DJ Khaled etc. He has also featured in some top chart songs like Black and Chinese, Good Drank, Portland, The Difference, Guwop, and I’m the One.
Quavo was named ‘most influential rapper’ by the online hip-hop appreciation network called Complex Music in 2014. He also starred as himself in Donald Glover’s TV series Atlanta (2016). Quavo and Travis Scott recently formed a hip-hop supergroup called Huncho Jack and released an album on the 22nd of December 2017 titled Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho. Nevertheless, Quavo is still an active member of the Migos.
Height and Family
Quavo has a recorded height of 6ft 1inches. He has a slender body frame and was advised to bulk up while he was in high school if he wanted to go pro and increase his chances of playing the quarterback position in the NFL.
Quavo lost his father at the very tender age of 4, so he was single-handedly raised by his widowed mother who was a hairdresser and did her best to cater for her family alone with virtually no support from a man.
Offset and Takeoff whose real names are Kiari Kendrell Cephus and Kirshnik Kari Ball respectively were also raised by Quavo’s mom. As a matter of fact, Offset is Quavo’s cousin while Takeoff is Quavo’s nephew and this explains why the three seem inseparable.
Quavo is currently dating American socialite, model and Claws actress, Karrueche Tran. Karrueche happens to be the ex-girlfriend of American pop star Chris Brown and there has been a lot of drama surrounding their breakup. She once slapped Chris Brown with a restraining order as the pop star keeps pestering her and reducing her chances of having a stable relationship with someone else.
Rumors of Quavo ending things with Karrueche because of Chris’ incessant bickering have been propagated by some tabloids and blogs. It is a known fact that Quavo and Chris had a public spat at the 2017 BET awards over Karrueche and many believe that Quavo is fed up with the drama that comes with dating Karrueche. However, neither Karrueche nor Quavo have confirmed these breakup rumors so it is safe to say they are just speculations.
Quavo’s House and Net Worth
Quavo lives together with the other members of the Migos; Offset and Takeoff in a Mansion in Atlanta. The rappers are guilty of showboating and have been seen showing off the pool and expensive interior décor of their mansion on social media. As expected, they also throw lavish parties in and around their house. The Migos are also believed to own another mansion in the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
With a net worth of about 10 million USD, Quavo and his crew can afford to live in lavish mansions in choice locations and even gift a house or two to family members.
Mama Huncho (Quavo’s mom, Offsets aunt and Takeoff’s grandma) was recently a recipient of a beautiful house from Quavo and Takeoff. The pair took to Quavo’s Instagram account to announce this, it was their Christmas gift to her.
