Pierre Png is an actor and comedian of Singaporean origin. He is well known for starring in several Chinese-language as well as English-language series on Singapore’s Mediacorp TV network. He gained national prominence for playing the character Phua Chu Beng on the hit sitcom Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd. After 20 years of acting, Png marked his Hollywood feature film debut in the highly successful 2018 romantic comedy film Crazy Rich Asians.

The actor was born Pierre Theodore Png Tiang Huat on October 23, 1973, in Singapore. He has Peranakan Chinese ancestry and had his early education at St Gabriel’s Primary School before attending Holy Innocents’ High School. As a young adult, he completed the mandatory period of National service as postulated by the statutory law of his home country.
Shortly afterward, Png marked his acting debut in the musical comedy film Forever Fever (1998) starring alongside John Travolta. This movie is renowned to be the first Singaporean movie to achieve international success. On his part, working in the film sparked Pierre Png’s interest in acting and he decided to enroll for an acting course. The talented actor continued his dominance of Chinese-language TV series as he featured in Life Is Beautiful (2015), Beyond Words (2016), The Gentlemen (2016), Home Truly (2017), When Duty Calls (2017) and many others.
While Pierre Png’s acting credits consist mainly of television productions, the talented actor has also recorded a few notable film credits. In the early days of his acting career, Singaporean-born actor starred in the romantic comedy Chicken Rice War (2000) and the horror flick The Eye (2002). He reached a major career milestone when he landed his first Hollywood film role in the highly successful romantic comedy film Crazy Rich Asians (2018), starring alongside Constance Wu, Michelle Yeoh and Awkwafina.
