At the prestigious Abby Lee Dance Company (ALDC), Payton Ackerman displayed exceptional dancing skills and left an indelible print on the dance floor before she took to other ventures. The owner of the dance company, Abby Lee Miller, has nothing but praises for the dancer, naming her among the best hip-hop dancers the institution has ever seen.
Despite her early accomplishments as a dancer, it wasn’t until she graced the second season of Dance Moms that she attained wide fame. Her time on the Lifetime reality TV show turned her into a national star but it wasn’t a very smooth ride towards the end. Get all the details below.
Payton Ackerman – Bio, Age
The Dance Moms star was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on August 24, 1997. Payton is a graduate of Upper St. Clair High School, Pennsylvania in 2015.
With an older sister who got moves like herself, Payton had the advantage of starting off early. Her dancing skills kept improving and soon, she was dancing for Reign Dance Productions, followed by Abby Lee Miller Dance Company. In 2011, Lifetime started screening the reality TV show, Dance Moms with the vicious Abby Lee Miller as the head teacher. Abby’s over-the-top attitude, as well as the skillful young dancers on the show, turned the show into a massive hit. At this time, Payton Ackerman wanted nothing more than to perform in front of the awestruck audience who always revel in the youngsters’ performances. Thus, it didn’t come as a surprise when she, in 2012, grabbed a spot on the second season of the dance show.
While she started dancing at ALDC at the age of 11, her Dance Moms spell started at the age of 14. On Dance Moms, Payton was often perceived as a spoilt brat who always engage in altercations with people around her even with Miller but this was debunked by her dance peers and Abby.
Before the season was over, Payton was excluded in the team because she’s much taller than the rest of her teammates. This is notwithstanding the fact that she was among the best dancers on the show. This treatment given to her didn’t go down well with Payton’s mother who intervened, leading to the end of her stint on the show. During an interview afterwards, Payton made it clear that her relationship with Abby wasn’t strained, despite what it looked like on Dance Moms. On the contrary, she credits the dance teacher for mentoring her on her craft, as well as playing the role of a second mom when the need arises. In 2015, she returned to ALDC, this time as a teacher. Her time with the company eventually came to an end when she thought it’s time to explore new grounds. She left the company on good terms and moved to Los Angeles.
Asides dancing, Payton Ackerman has been on videos including Todrick Hall’s 2014 music video Freaks Like Me, as well as the short film High Hello (2015) in which she performed to critical acclaim. In spite of these other ventures, her passion for dancing has never fizzled out. Most recently, she put up a good performance at Australian singer, Magenta Harley’s live show at ‘The Federal’ in NoHo. The show was held on April 30, 2018.
Payton Ackerman also uses social media to connect with her fans. She has accounts across several platforms including Twitter where she has more than 57k followers and Instagram where her regular posts on her career, lifestyle, and travels have helped attract a following of more than 623K fans. Of course, her Instagram handle is laden with some of her hip-hop dance videos with fellow professionals. Truly, Payton Ackerman has built a strong career as a professional dancer.
Family Life Of The Dancer
Greg Ackerman (father) and Leslie Ackerman (mother) are the parents of Payton. Her mother has always been a pillar of support to her and naturally intervened when she was having issues on Dance Moms. Her siblings include an older sister, Taylor Ackerman and a brother, Connor. Her sister is also a professional dancer and helped Payton with her moves during her formative years.
The dancer is yet to get married but has a boyfriend named Logan Stork. The two met while still in school.
Payton Ackerman measures 5 feet 4 inches in height and weighs about 52 kg. She was often sidelined during her time on Dance Moms because she happened to be taller than the rest of her mates. This finally led to her exit from the Lifetime show.
