Olivier Martinez may not have been born in America “the land of opportunities,” but he is a testament of the notion that talent can indeed thrive especially in an industry like Hollywood. Born a French man, Olivier was first a famous actor in France and featured in some of the best works to come out his native land.
He even reached a milestone in his career after he was cast in one of the most expensive films made in his country. He has since moved to the U.S where he has managed to gain more success and fame in his chosen career especially with the movie, Before The Night (2000). Here are more interesting details about his life and career
Who Is Olivier Martinez?
Olivier Martinez was born in Paris, France, on the 12th of January 1966 to a middle-class family. His father was famously known in Morocco as a professional boxer in his heydays whereas his mother worked as a French secretary. His career in acting officially began in 1990, just after the completion of his studies at the CNSAD. Just four year into his career in France, he won the prestigious Cesar Award for “Most Promising Actor” for his stellar performance in the 1993 movie, Un, Deux, Trois, Soleil. He was then cast in the 1995 Jean-Paul Rappeneau movie titled, The Horseman on the Roof (Le Hussard sur le Toit). This was a movie which went into the record books as being the most expensive French movie ($35 million) as at then; unfortunately, the movie wasn’t as successful as hoped as it wasn’t able to make up to the budget for producing the film.
Having established a name for himself in the French movie industry, Olivier Martinez began making inroads into Hollywood. He gained mild popularity in the year 2000 after he starred alongside Johnny Depp and Javier Bardem, in the movie, Before Night Falls. Currently, he has proven his acting chops in Hollywood and has been featured in a good number of laudable movies and series including; S.W.A.T. in 2003, Blood and Chocolate in 2007, a role as Mauritius, prefect of Mamertine Prison, in the 2017 religious movie, Paul, Apostle of Christ.
Relationship With Halle Berry, Son
Olivier is no doubt a good looking man who most women would love to date. Interestingly, he has dated some of the most beautiful and high profiled women in the entertainment industry, of which one of them is the delectable Halle Berry (actress and Oscar winner for her role in Monster’s Ball). They both met in 2010 on the set of the movie, Dark Tide. Two years later, the pair confirmed their engagement.
On the 22nd of November 2012, Martinez was hospitalized as a result of injuries he sustained from an altercation with Halle’s ex-partner, Gabriel Aubrey, over the plans to take his daughter go live in Olivier’s native country, France. This was further reinforced by the ruling of the court that it would violate the joint custody arrangements between Berry and Aubrey concerning their daughter. Notwithstanding, this dispute has been resolved in December of 2012. The following year, on the 13 of July 2013, Olivier and Halle tied the knot in a private ceremony.
The couple welcomed their first child together, a son whom they named Maceo. He was born in Los Angeles, in October 2013. Having spent two years together as a married couple, the seemingly happy pair announced that they were getting a divorce. This news was of course, a shocker to fans because it was believed that the pair truly would last for a long time. Their divorce was finalized in December 2016.
Who Is He Dating Now?
Olivier Martinez has recently been spotted back with his former girlfriend, Kylie Minogue. Olivier and the pop princess were previously in a five-year relationship (2003-2007). The pair were very close as they went through false cheating rumors labeled on Martinez by the media as well as a breast cancer scare which Kylie went through successfully.
Their separation was not based on any feud between them just that their work schedules kept them apart most times leading to them calling it quits with their relationship. After his divorce from Halle Berry and Kylie Minogue’s split from her fiancé Joshua Sasse, in 2017, they both decided to give it a go once more. Hopefully, their love affair lasts and even go as far as a marriage the second time out.
