Is The New Midway Movie A Remake
Ronald Emmerich’s new Midway movie is set to hit the theatres massively come November 8, 2019. The upcoming epic film is based on real events that ensued at the Battle of Midway, the decisive naval battle between the Imperial Japanese Navy and the American Navy during the Second World War. It tells the story of the brave soldiers who, using everything they had, were able to turn the odds in favor of America in the Pacific theatre.
The new film is a remake of the 1976 popular film of the same title directed by Jack Smight. It was mostly filmed at the Naval-Air force Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii, USA with some scenes shot in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, unlike its 1976 version that was filmed at the Naval Bases in Long Beach and Terminal Island, Los Angeles, California and also at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida.
The filming of the new Midway began on September 5, 2018, and it wrapped up on December 12 of the same year. Between the German director’s track record and the staggering estimated budget of $75 million that went into its production, nothing short of excellence is expected of the coming movie.
Who Are The Cast Members?
The new Midway movie stars an impressive ensemble cast which hardly comes as a surprise considering the historical importance of the storyline, only the best people for each role were selected.
Woody Harrelson as Adm. Chester Nimitz
The multiple-award-winning True Detective actor, Woody Harrelson stars in the movie as Admiral Chester Nimitz, the Commander in Chief of the pacific fleet and ocean areas of the United States. Admiral Nimitz commanded the joint air, land and sea forces during World War II. Harrelson was cast for the role along with Mandy Moore in April 2018.
Luke Evans as Lt. Commander Wade McClusky
The Clash of the Titans Welsh actor joined the cast of the new Midway movie in July 2018 to play the important role of Lieutenant Commander Wade McClusky, the commander whose resolve to find the enemy, in Admiral Chester Nimitz’s own words, decided the fate of the American forces at Midway during the battle.
Etsushi Toyokawa as Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto
Veteran actor Etsushi Toyokawa will be portraying the Commander-in-chief of the joined fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy, Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto
Ed Skrein as Lieutenant Dick Best
Game of Thrones’ Daario Naharis, Ed Skrein, stars as Lieutenant Dick Best, the brave squadron commander and bomber pilot who with his squadron essentially sank two aircraft carriers of the enemy forces during the notorious battle.
Tadanobu Asano as Rear Admiral Tamon Yamaguchi
Japanese actor, Tadanobu Asano joined the cast in August to play the role of Rear Admiral Tamon Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi commanded one of the carrier forces of the Imperial Japanese Navy in the Pearl Harbor attack which formally led the United States into the Second World War.
Patrick Wilson as Lieutenant Commander Edwin T. Layton
The scream king himself, Patrick Wilson, is also among the members of cast of the new Midway movie and he will be portraying the role of the wise Lieutenant Commander Edwin Thomas Layton who was an intelligence officer of the United States Navy before World War II began and also served in that capacity during the war.
Other actors who star in the new Midway movie are Aaron Eckhart as Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Doolittle, Mandy Moore as Anne Best, Nick Jonas as Mate Bruno Gaido, Dennis Quaid as Vice Admiral William “Bull” Halsey, Jake Weber as Rear Admiral Raymond Spruance, Darren Criss as Lieutenant Commander Eugene Lindsey, and Jun Kunimura as Vice Admiral Chuichi Nagumo.
Additionally, Keean Johnson appears as James Murray while Luke Kleintank plays the role of Lieutenant Clarence Earle Dickinson. Alexander Ludwig, Brandon Sklenar, Jake Manley, and James Carpinello also play notable roles in the movie.
