Nathan Kane Samara is better known to the world as the younger brother of Eminem. When your brother is one of hip hop’s greatest, it is almost impossible that the world won’t pick an interest in you, especially if you are interested in the rap game as well. He might be living in the shadow of his superstar brother, but that doesn’t mean that Nathan has not got some things about him worth knowing. We attempted to summarize things you need to know about him in these 6 facts.
6 Things You Need To Know About Nathan Kane Samara
1. He had it Rough as a Child.
If you’re a fan of Eminem, then you’re well aware of all the troubles he went through growing up. Many of those troubles he boldly blamed on his mother Deborah Mathers whom he name-dropped in a couple of his songs most notably “My Mom” where he also mentioned Nathan.
Apparently, fourteen years wasn’t enough time for Eminem’s mom to turn a new leaf as his brother Nathan born on February 3, 1986 (about 14 years after Eminem’s birth) went through the same difficulties Eminem did as a child.
The authorities at Roseville Elementary School where Nathan schooled said Debbie had neglected and abused Nathan. As a result, he was placed in foster care. Eminem would later become responsible for raising him. Nathan is technically Eminem’s half-brother as his mom had him with a different man named Fred J. Samara.
Nathan and Eminem have both forgiven their mom, Eminem’s lyrics to his 2013 song Headlights says it all. Part of the lyrics say “…But I forgive You and so does Nathan.”
2. He Raps, Writes Songs, and Produces.
Growing up with his superstar brother, Nathan watched Eminem’s every move and soon began emulating him. At the age of 13, Nathan appeared as young Eminem in the music video for his song, “Without Me (2009).”
The following year, in 2000, Eminem brought him along on his “Up In Smoke” tour. As a result of his busy schedule, Eminem asked Nathan to represent him at the 2001 Detroit Music Awards where he received an award for him and also gave the acceptance speech. While accepting his VMA in 2003, Eminem gave a shout out to Nathan.
With the wealth of exposure to music Eminem had given Nathan, it didn’t come much as a surprise when he embarked on his own rap career. He began rapping under the moniker, Nate Kane. However, Nate was nowhere close to achieving the kind of success his brother did.
None of his songs ever made it to the mainstream. Some of the known ones include; “Shadow of a celebrity” and “Slide on over both released around 2010”. It isn’t clear if the former song was in reference to his elder brother. Though he still has rapper on his Instagram bio, no new material has been heard from Nate in a long time.
3. Nathan is also an Actor and Personal Trainer.
Rap didn’t quite work out for him, but it seems Nathan isn’t giving up easily in making a name for himself. He has dabbled into acting, making his debut in Devils Night Dawn Of The Nain Rouge! a horror film directed and co-written by Emmy-nominated producer Sam Logan Khaleghi. In April 2018, Nathan took to his IG to promote the film asking fans to anticipate its release in theaters. Catch the trailer below.
In addition to acting, Nathan, a hunk himself, is a personal trainer. His IG feed has photos of himself feasting on healthy meals and promoting body supplements.
4. Nathan Kane Samara is Engaged and is a Father.
Kane has found love in the eyes of a certain Ashley Mae with the IG handle ash.mae. A visit to his social reveals how smitten by her he is as he constantly posts sweet words about his bae. They are engaged to be married. Nate popped the question in December 2016. The couple already share three kids together.
Nathan and Ashley have been in a romantic relationship for years, since as far back as 2001. He is indeed a loyal man.
5. He Officially Changed his Surname from Samara to Mathers in 2018.
Though it appears his father was barely around during his childhood, Nathan kept using his surname. However, in early 2018, he seemed to have gotten tired of the name when he officially changed from Samara to Mathers which is Eminem’s surname as well. The Blast reported that a judge at the Michigan court where Nate filed for the name change had granted his wish.
6. He has Been Arrested at Least Once.
Back in 2009, Nate had run-ins with the law after he was busted for DUI. Nate had refused to let an ambulance pass and was pulled over. He was brought in to custody but was released on a personal bond. However, those years are gone as Nathan couldn’t seem more responsible.
