Since Donald Trump took over power as the president of the United States, there was the fear that the world was heading towards a nuclear war or even a World War as a result of the exchange of words and threats between the American leader and the supreme leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, including the talk about who between the two has a bigger nuclear button on his desk. Interestingly, in 2018, it was announced that the two presidents were going to meet to see how they could give peace a chance, something that had never happened before. The man behind the talks is Mike Pompeo.
Mike Pompeo’s Bio, Age
Mike was born Michael Richard Pompeo on December 30, 1963, Orange, California. Of Italian descent, he went to Fountain Valley’s Los Amigos High School in California before proceeding to the United States Military Academy at West Point where he finished as the best in his class.
Having served in the army for some time, Pompeo went to the Harvard Law School, after which he worked in Washing Williams & Connolly, a law firm.
Before going into the world of politics where he would come to be known, Mike first went into business, cofounding an aerospace manufacturing company, Thayer Aerospace. In the political world, he contested for the 4th District Congressional seat to represent Kansas under the Republican Party. Having emerged victorious in the party’s primary election, he went on to defeat Raj Goyle of the Democratic Party. Pompeo would be re-elected in 2012, 2014, and 2016.
Shortly after his victory in the presidential elections of 2016, Donald Trump nominated Mike to serve as a CIA Director. He was sworn in on January 23, 2017, after he was confirmed by the US Senate on the same day. Mike would only serve for a year before he would be nominated again by the president to fill the office of Rex Tillerson after he was fired as Secretary of State. Pompeo was confirmed as the new Secretary of States on April 26, 2018. Shortly afterwards, he was sworn in.
Despite his often busy schedule, Mike Pompeo still find time to be very religious. If you are wondering the religion Pompeo belongs to, he is a Christian and a member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. More than just a member, he also teaches the Sunday school just as he doubles as a deacon.
Wife and Family
Mike’s public life has so much dominated his private life. Nonetheless, he is a married man, and his wife is Susan Pompeo. The interesting thing about her is that she has not been entirely absent in the public life of her husband, most especially when you consider that she has appeared in his campaign advertisement in the past as well as in some of his public activities.
Before marrying Susan, Mike first got married to Leslie Liberty in 1986. Unfortunately, the marriage suffered a divorce in 1997.
It was in Wichita, Kanas that Susan Pompeo was born and brought up. She attended the Wichita State University from where she graduated. Susan and Mike share a son whose name is Nicholas Pompeo.
Height and Weight
Many people know Mike Pompeo and his family as fans of basketball, but what they don’t know is that the man has also played the sports in his younger days, even though he did not go professional. What has helped him to play the game of basketball is as obvious as his massive height and body build. That is also one of the things that have helped him with his rather short career in the military.
That is all in context. In numbers, he stands at a height of 5ft 11in. For his weight, that has not been provided.
After he was nominated to become the secretary of state by President Donald Trump, there was a lot of opposition to his candidacy by people who believe he should not be allowed to fill the office. Here are some facts about him:
- He was among the strongest critics of Hillary Clinton’s handling of the Benghazi, serving at the time as a member of the House Intelligence Committee.
- Pompeo has taken some stance that a lot of people feel are very controversial including his support for the surveillance of Americans, his favouring of torture, and his idea that a death sentence should be passed on Edward Snowden.
- As an evangelical Christian, Mike Pompeo is highly pro-life.
- Before finally coming to support Donald Trump in the build-up to the 2016 presidential election, Mike was a supporter of Marco Rubio who ended third in the race before he finally bowed out.
