It was barely five years after YouTube started that the now popular YouTuber Lilly Singh got on the platform. Since then, she has become a worthy example to women around the world with her odd defiling attitudes. Lilly, although a YouTuber, is also a dynamic comedian, actress, and talk show host. This “superwoman” has more than 14 million subscribers on her YouTube channel and has been featured on Forbes as one of the highest-paid YouTubers; her average earning has been pegged at $10 million. Singh attracted even more attention in early 2019 when she announced that she was bisexual via her Twitter account. It was the first time that an Indian woman and an Indian woman of colour was coming out publicly. The news of her coming out made many become even more interested in her love life which she largely keeps private.

The YouTube Star Came Out As Bisexual in 2019

In February 2019, Lily Singh dropped a shocker when she took to her Twitter page to announce that she was bisexual. In the simple and straightforward post, the YouTube star simply wrote the words “Female Coloured and Bisexual” each word beside a check box, before going on to explain how being these things often proved to be an obstacle in her life and that she was now confidently embracing them. Singh concluded by encouraging her over 5.74 million Twitter followers to follow suit.

Her announcement came shortly after the YouTube star had taken a brief hiatus from posting on YouTube in order to focus more on her mental health. She was apparently suffering from burn-out as she also stated that she needed to focus on restoring her creative energy. Singh made these revelations in a post to her YouTube page in November 2018, however, a month later, she had resumed posting on her channel.

While Singh’s coming out might have come as a shock to some, the suspicions were always there, especially to her early fans. As way back as 2016, Singh was putting out tweets that would have made her followers suspect that she was gay. From that tweet, those she met in real life also had suspicions. Apparently, Singh has been on a journey of discovering her sexuality for years.

Lily Singh had also been a vocal supporter of the LGBT community and had put out tweets supporting gay rights. The gay community in America would eventually play a part in inspiring her to come out. In her interview with The Hollywood Reporter about her decision to come out, Singh said that her coming out was not so much of a big secret that she was keeping, she pointed out that she grew up around a culture that did not allow her to figure things out. Singh added that her horizons opened up when she moved to Los Angeles as she was exposed to different kinds of people.

After coming out in early 2019, what followed was a huge outpour of love and support from her fans as well as notable people of the LGBT community. Fellow YouTube stars, Shane Dawson, Hannah Hart, and Manny Mua Singh voiced their support for Singh. She also received huge support from her followers from South Asia who said that her decision was a huge win for gays from her continent as it would make the topic more open for discussion in that part of the world.

Dubai-born poet and playwright Afshan D’souza-Lodhi was among those to celebrate Singh’s announcement. She told the BBC that it was amazing the way Singh came out and hoped that it would encourage more young people from South Asia to have discussions regarding sexuality with their parents. Also, non-binary artist and performer, Shiva Raichandani told Newsbeat that Singh’s coming out was worth celebrating because of her descent.

Who Is Lily Singh Dating Now?

Lily Singh is not one to discuss her personal life in public and so far, she is sticking to this. Since coming out, Singh has not been romantically linked with anyone, not a man, not a woman. In an interview with Vogue, she explained how hard it was for her to date a genuine guy since she is popular on social media which led her to conclude that she prefers dating the old fashion way, without social media and that she preferred to keep her dating life completely private.

After coming out, she told The Hollywood Reporter in 2019 that she was trying out dating apps but was not willing to share details of her romantic life with the public. Singh did speak of her previous relationships with Vogue without sharing too many details. The YouTuber said she slid into the person’s DM and they hit things off from then. She also mentioned that the relationship revolved so much around posting it on social media which eventually became the end of the relationship. While Singh did not mention the name of her previous partner, fans have narrowed their suspicions to two people – both fellow YouTubers who featured heavily on her channel and vice-versa.

Relationship With Fellow YouTuber Yousef Erakat

Way back in 2015, it was rumoured that Lilly Singh was dating the Palestinian-American YouTuber Yousef Erakat who runs the channel titled FouseyTube and is known for posting skits and prank videos. The speculation came up due to their many collaborations on their respective YouTube channels. One of their most popular videos is titled ‘Dating a YouTuber be like.’ However, by 2018, the duo stopped featuring in each other’s channels leading fans to wonder if they had broken up. Throughout the time that they were seen together, however, none of the two YouTubers came out to clear the air about the kind of relationship they had.

Also in 2018, Yousef opened up to CNN about his struggles with mental health, he said that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and depression. A while later, he posted a worrying video on his YouTube page where he said he was giving up on his YouTube page as it was no longer worth it. Yousef however, continued keeping his page active and would later release a video stating that he had broken up with his girlfriend (without stating exactly who she was), he also revealed that he had begun dating someone new and hoped that his ex would find someone new as well.

Fans Suspect That She Also Dated Dominic Sandoval aka D-trix

Another person that fans linked Singh with was yet another YouTuber, Dominic Sandoval, better known as D-trix with whom she had featured in some YouTube videos. D-trix who runs a channel titled theDOMINICshow began appearing in videos with Singh in 2016. Their videos gave included somewhere they shared kisses together with obvious chemistry, thus leading to the speculations. However, neither party commented on the nature of their relationship.
