Matewa Kiritapu’s mother, Chelsea Winstanley, is an actress and film producer. She was born on January 30, 1976, in New Zealand and is currently 48 years old. The actress was born to John Winstanley, a home renovator, and Cherryl Wilson, a psychotherapist. Though her educational background is scarce, it is believed that she is well-educated.

 

Her film productions are mostly short movies and documentaries, which focuses mainly on indigenous people. Some of the films she has produced are Jojo Rabbit and What We Do in the Shadows. Taika David Cohen, better known by the name Taika Waititi, was born on August 16, 1975, in Raukokore, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. He was born to Robin Cohen, an Ashkenazi Jewish, Irish, Scottish, and English ancestry artist and art educator. Taika’s father, who is just known as Taika, is predominantly Maori but also has some French Canadian lineage.

After his parents divorced, he was raised by his mother and went to Onslow College. He also graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Taika made use of both his father’s surname, Waititi, and his mother’s surname, Cohen, but after becoming successful in a short film, he chose to use Waititi.

In addition to two Primetime Emmy nominations, he has won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, a BAFTA Award, and other honors. The highest-grossing New Zealand films in 2010 and 2016; Boy and Hunt for the Wilderpeople respectively, were his full-length works.

Waititi began dating New Zealand film producer Chelsea Winstanley in 2011 after splitting from Horsley. According to The New Zealand Herald, the two had already met when Chelsea interviewed Taika for a documentary series in the early 2000s. The duo collaborated together on the 2010 movie Boy, which was written and directed by Waititi.

Before moving their romance forward and getting married in 2012, the couple dated for about a year. They were married for over seven years before officially calling it quits in 2018 without letting their divorce make headlines. Though the reason for their divorce is unknown, Winstanley did admit to The New Zealand Herald in 2018 that she no longer wanted to stay in the shadows of her husband’s fame.

Matewa Kiritapu has an older sister, Te Hinekāhu, who was born to her parents. Te Hinekāhu, was born on May 20, 2012, and is also pursuing a career in acting, just like her younger sister.
