Heather Van Norman is an American woman who is a former NCAA 6-time All-American track and field events athlete. She is, however, best known as the mother of Odell Beckam Jr., an American football wide receiver who has played for teams like the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, and Los Angeles Rams.
Van Norman is currently head coach of the Nicholls State University track and field team. Odell Beckam Jr. speaks so much about his mother’s support and also about the huge influence and contributions she has made to the growth and success of his career as one of the country’s premier sportsmen.
Heather Van Norman is Most Likely in Her 50s
Heather Van Norman’s exact date of birth is currently unknown to the public and the media. However, sources close to the Athletics coach have revealed that she is most likely a woman in her 50s. Internet pictures of Heather also make this theory more believable.
She was born in Windom, Minnesota, United States of America, and comes from a mix of African-American and Caucasian ethnic groups. Her birth status also grants her the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of a United States of America citizen.
Heather Van Norman is the daughter of Don Van Norman and Millie Van Norman. Aside from their names, not much is known about the parents of Odell Beckam Jr.’s mom. More information on Heather’s birth family is limited and as such, it is unclear if she is the only child of the Van Normans as no publication mentions any sibling she might have grown up with.
Her formal education background is well documented from when she started attending high school. She initially attended Minnesota High School where she had spent the majority of her life but she didn’t get her high school diploma there because she moved to New Orleans and subsequently got one from New Orleans High School.
Heather Van Norman then proceeded to get a university education from Louisiana State University and her time at the University pretty much set her up for almost all the events that had occurred in her life up till this moment.
Odell Beckham Jr.’s Mother was an Athlete
Heather Van Norman was a 6-time NCAA All-American and her numbers on the track and field are really impressive. She also has gone on to become a respected coach first with Rice, to Georgia Tech, Atlanta, and then to Tulane and NSU. For all her career exploits, the millennials remember her more fondly as the mother of NFL free agent Odell Beckham.
Heather Van Norman is Hugely Influential in Her Son’s Career Success
Supersonic speed, one-handed catches, excellent footwork, balance, and more are some of the qualities one will notice that Odell Beckham Jr. has in spades whenever one gets the privilege of seeing any of his highlight reels.
A simple way to describe it would be to say that Odell Beckham Jr. is a really great and talented football player and much of it is down to genetics. His father, Odell Beckham Sr. was a football player as well and it has already been established that his mother, Heather Van Norman ran track and field during her college years.
However, Odell himself has in the past paid tribute to his mother as the rock behind the success of his NFL career as a result of the sacrifices she made and continues to make for him. He also had much to say about the support, emotional or otherwise that she continues to give him whenever and wherever he needs it.
Suffice it to say then that Heather Van Norman has hugely and positively impacted her son’s life both as a career professional athlete and also as an individual.
Van Norman Had Odell Beckham Jr. with Odell Beckham Sr.
Heather Van Norman met her son’s father for the first time in college. They were both students of Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, and were also both sports-oriented. He was a football player while she was focused on track and field events.
Somewhere along the line, they began dating even though the exact timeline of when this happened has yet to be established. Heather Van Norman’s former partner played more than 30 games for the Tigers and they had some really good stuff to say about him.
The relationship between Heather and Odell Sr. expanded to include a kid who they named Odell Cornelius Beckham Jr. after his father. Odell Jr. was born on November 5, 1992, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Heather’s only child with her former partner has gone on to become one of the most highly rated NFL players in recent years, turning out for teams like the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, and the Los Angeles Rams.
Heather Van Norman did not have any more children with Odell Sr. after the birth of their NFL star son. However, records show that Heather’s former partner went on to have a relationship with another unidentified woman and she gave birth to a son on May 27, 2002. He was named Cordell “Kordell” Beckham.
In spite of the more than a decade relationship between Heather and her former partner, it is interesting to note that they never officially tied the knot before breaking up and going their separate ways. They have however found a way to remain friends and have not let their differences get between their responsibilities to their son, Odell Jr.
She is Currently Married To Derek Mills
It took some time for Heather to get back into the dating game after breaking up with Odell Sr. This time she found love in the arms of former United States of America Olympic gold medalist, Derek Mills.
The circumstances and the timeline of their first meeting and when they subsequently became a couple are yet to be publicly established. In the same manner, no one knows exactly when they got married. This lack of information on the details of Heather’s second marriage invariably means that it will be a tough one to determine how long they have been together as a married couple.
Heather Van Norman and her husband Derek Mills have one child together, a daughter named Jazmyne Mills. Not much is known about Jazmyne including her exact date of birth. She is however believed to be in her mid-20s as of 2022.
