It was on June 21, 1978, that he was born as Matthew Gregory Kuchar in Winter Park, Florida. He was born to parents whose parents made it from Ukraine to the United States during the 1917 revolution in the country.
His father, Peter became a tennis pro and he rose to be ranked No. 1 in doubles in Florida. This made Matt consider joining the sports when he was growing up. However, the moment he tried golf, he just fell in love with it. Coming from a very athletic family, he also played soccer as a kid and later basketball but he always found himself returning to golf.
